Default Dialing Out Reverse on TC3 RTR

One of our racers has a RTR TC3. He has been told not to use his reverse, but uses it anyway. He backed into me during a race Saturday and rolled me over. Hahahaha! Needless to say, I want it turned off. Anyone know?

I believe Runner is the model of speed control, and hi-tec sport is the radio.

I think that they should be told to get a new speedo. The Runner is great, but if you plan on racing, It's time for something new.

If you can find a way to dial it out, go for it, but with the RTR radio and the RTR speedo, i don't think you can.

TSR6, you are correct. There is no way to disable reverse. The best you can do without replacing the speed control would be to just get used to how the runner works. The first 50% of trigger throw is for brakes, and once you exceed 50% of trigger throw it becomes reverse. Once you get used to this it is possible to drive without activating reverse. A friend has one of these and after a couple laps around it was fairly easy to keep from hitting reverse.

Cmotif Sounds like the person wasn't willing to make an effort to not use reverse.

I can guarantee that he was using reverse rather than waiting for the corner marshals. It happened several times.

Make him tape a stick between the throttle and the radio, so that it can't go forward.

If he isnt making the effort, just say it is time for a new speedo.

TZR6, I like your idea, that is obviously simple and effective.

Anyone doing that should get a stern warning the first occurrence, maybe a lap penalty the second, and disqualified if it happens again.

And then the forth time......"TRIPS....GET THE TABLES!!!! " Yeah do it Dudley Boy style!!!!!

Seriously---- the runner has no reverse at all, what I do because i have a KO Mars EX-1 and use a runner in my BRP, I turn the reverse down to the point where it acts as a brake, and then crawls in reverse....

Maybe you could talk to the track director and they could give him a trade-in on it to lessen the blow of buying a new speedo....remember if the guy is using a RTR for racing then he isn't a seasoned veteran and making him feel uncomfortable could damage your program...... ALWAYS REMEMBER newbes are the ones who keep the local racing fresh, and help maintain the status of the track....

IMPACT, good point. I had thought about that being possible with my m8 as well. Unfortunately, since he is using a RTR he is most likely using the kit radio as well. Probably the best way would be to put something against the trigger so it doesn't allow it to go to reverse. I will see one of those radios this weekend so I will work with it and see if something simple and effective is possible. The point about newbies is good as well. If you go making too many demands after he just purchased the car you will push him away from racing and lose a customer. Its too bad they didn't make a trigger mod like traxxas has to change the throw to 70/30 instead of 50/50. Maybe something mechanical to lock the lever perhaps a hole for a screw to stop the travel of the trigger.

IMPACTPLAYR makes a very good point about not discouraging new racers... I didn't really think about it when I posted.

I still think there needs to be a way to prevent reverse usage during racing though. If someone accidentaly hits it, that's one thing, but someone intentionally using it to avoid waiting for a marshal... that needs to be prevented. You have to balance the need to avoid discouraging newbies with the need to prevent them from backing into oncoming traffic and breaking someone's car.

Even a Traxxas radio wouldnt do the trick. An adjustable radio would, but as everyone said, i doubt he has one.

I would suggest to him to sell it to someone with a Traxxas Rustler, or keep it as a spare, and get a "race worthy" speedo.

Otherwise, put a stick & tape between the radio and the trigger.

Either that, or give a penatly for driving in reverse, maybe a lap?. I know that this won't make him happy, but he won't do it again!
