Id Venture to say its both.....You must admit no one is in the business side of RC to not make money....But at the same time by passing on the new updates that the team has tested and proven to consumers within a few months is going to make them more money as well.

I mean would you rather Corally test the new Phi in Team driver's hands for 1-2 years before releasing it? Associated test the TC5 for 1-2 years? Or Losi test the Type R for a year or so....on wait....they did that!!

Xray release's a car every year....Corally releases 400.00 worth of upgrades each year.... 400.00 is 400.00 weather its a new car or new parts (that you may or may not need but are going to buy because they are new!!) what difference does it matter?

Exactly...BENJAMINS... Like I said Losi is the only manufacturer that has a design that looks like a radical departure... Hopefully the R will be different, if so, the throngs of people who bitch and complain that all the cars look the same will all go in droves and buy the car....

Todd, you do agree as a "player" in the industry that it is a business correct?

Uh...yea it is a business just like any racing is. We race to promote the quality of our cars from the high race kit to the Micro T.

Obviously these companies are in business to make money, as they should be. I think the distinction is, at what point are you gouging your loyal customer base, and hiding behind the admirable notion of releasing updates to your customer to stay fresh? Releasing a new kit hurts owners of the previous kit, not because their cars are suddenly useless, but because they can no longer get the same support from the team, or the company's loyal followers. So, maybe they're helping racers with the latest and fastest cars, but in some way, they're punishing everybody that owned their last $400 car. That's not exclusive to XRay, but it's more noticeable there because of their enthusiastic release schedule.

For the record, since I'm seen as a Corally homer, I think they've failed a bit as well. All the new parts are nice, since you can buy them individually, but that makes updating a car vastly more expensive than if they had released updated kits. They do include a lot of the updates in the new kits that go out, which is nice, but it's extremely frustrating and convoluted for RDX owners, because there's so many updates available, and you can't say "oh I have the RDX FX" or whatever. It's just the RDX, which in reality could be 50 different cars with all the parts out there.

"Enthusiastic release schedule"...Thats great!! LOL. I would agree with your statement IF the 007 was not a better car than the T2....which it is better. The T2 was better than the FK05 (IMO). As long as you are actually getting a better or improved car I dont think its gouging. Also with the release of a conversion kit for the T2 owners I think that was a step in the right direction too. I mean you almost get a whole new car for 200.00. Granted it's half the price of a whole new car but wold you rather spend 400.00 one year then 200.00 the next for the complete upgrade or 400.00 every year on a new car and then 400.00 every year for the next 2-3 years for upgrades? Its the same difference either way.
