Default brushless systems

I race old farts stock 13.5 motors I would like to inquire about what speed controll and motors are best. I had a novak xbr that did not work well. I am concidering a momba but am not sure what motors will work best. Any info will be appreciated...
Thanks

for newbies, what system do you guys recommend? is the GTB 3.5R a good starting system? i know it has good power, but if i limit the top motor speed and acceleration curve, will it be enough and controllable?

A 3.5 for a newbie would be suicide!!!

I was thinking the same thing

Its almost like telling someone to solder a LiPo pack together thats never touched a soldering iron

How about you try a good beginner/intermediate system like a Novak GTB with a 13.5 stocker before you go for the speed run 3.5's

you really cannot go wrong with the GTB/Sphere TC/Mamba at all, I personally run all 3 and I have very few complaints about any of them.

Now that i've opened the judgement floodgates, let the personal preferences pour!

A better way to look at it is that your using a sensor based motor, so use a sensor based speed control like the Sphere TC or GTB, if you decide to upgrade to a sensorless motor in the future, then obviously look towards a sensorless speedcontrol

3.5 for a newbie i must say "you got ball$" i would start with the 13.5 or even the 17.5 motor if you get the gtb there is no motor limit so once you get used to the power you can upgrade to a faster motor. (FYI the 10.5 is plenty fast!!)

can you elaborate on why the XBR did not work well?

... i think i get the idea of the of the 3.5's power

actually i've been running nitro 1/10 on-road touring for a while now, but pretty much newbie in electrics.
i was thinking of getting one good/fast system but tame it with the speed limit trim and acceleration curve in the Tx to start to get the feel of the car.
not really sure it could be tamed that way...

but i could use the ESC that came with the 3.5R with a 13.5 motor, right?

If you mean the GTB, then yes, it can handle ANY sensored brushless motor(& it's what I use with my 13.5).....

ran both GTB and LRP TC with my 10.5. both are good and quite capable. The only reason i stuck with the LRP was because the wiring was neater and simpler when switching between brushed and brushless motors. but on the performance end, i couldn't really tell if there was a difference.
