Glad to see we got some traffic on this thread. I sent an email to Clint from MaxAmps to see if he could check in every now and again to answer questions... I agree, great company and great product!!!

I agree on the balancer. I bought one to be safe and have since had a few guys at my local track tell me that they might want to borrow it every 6 months or so to check their packs, but they had been running them for a while and never balanced them.

lets say i want to get the equinox balancer

http://www.electrifly.com/chargers/gpmm3160.html

and maxamps batteries (coming with Hyperion taps)...in the picture the top cable is Hyperion , and the bottom one is coming with equinox

the biggest tap is the one to be pluged in the balancer, they are identical so i could just buy a Hyperion cable and use it with equimox balancer and maxamps batteries, but ... look at the picture again , the equinox cable is coming with some circuit at the battery side , what is that for??? would be safe to use the hyperion cable with no circuit?

Your picture isn't showing so its hard to tell what you are asking.

If you go with the equinox and then get the a hyperion harness from MaxAmps it will work... but be careful.... unless you get a harness similar to this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNGC6 you will only be able to balance charge at 3 amps. Notice how it has a dean's plug which hooks directly to the battery. Usually these harnesses only allow you to charge up to 6 amps anyway so if you are getting larger than a 6000 you won't be able to charge at a full rate. Which doesn't matter but be aware.

Get the Equinox and hyperion harness and you'll be fine... or just get a balancer from MaxAmps and just balance discharge or balance charge at a low rate. It will take very little time anyway to balance.. seconds if anything at all. I've got the Apache SM-505 and it works fine. You'll rarely have a need for the balancer anyway so don't get too caught up in it.

the image of first post works for me , anyway i uploaded it to photobucket

my idea was to get the equinox at tower because it is cheaper than the hyperion at maxamps , the apache would be a nice option but it is also more expensive than tower's equinox, dont see the point of paying more for less

please check the picture and let me know what do you think about the small green board circuit

by the way thanks for the advice about the high current rate, i had that in mind already , my idea is to use in-charge balancing only for slow charge sometimes, i will do mainly charges with no balancer at 1C (8A for 8000 mah battery i belive) and sometimes balancing in quick balancing more (no charger connected)

all should be safe that way , right?

Sorry can't tell you about the circuit board. Your thoughts on using the balancer is fine. And yes you will charge at 8A for an 8000.

I am really considering getting a 6000 or two. I was wondering though is really nessesary to try and balence the weight on your car? The less weight is another big plus to me and I would hate to have to add weight. Last season one of the guys was using lipo (1600mah) which is much lighter then most batteries including most other lipos and I don't think he ever balanced his car and it looked to handle fine but I never really payed to much attention to it. Also did anybody notice that you get the most mah for your dollar with the 6000 and 8000... just thought I would mention that.

I would get the hyperion adapter and then a normal 2S adapter and make an adapter.

Just saw that hyperion, you'll spend almost the difference in adapters and such...I would get it if I didn't already have an equinox.

8000 mah how much run time is that? And is the battery shrink wraped or in a case?
Sound's like one pack to practice and one pack for a full night of racing?

As for the weight, it depends on what you are running....In my on road touring car, I had to add all the weight to balance it. In my xx4 I added 5oz weight to my lipo because of traction, but when I converted it to an X-5 I only added 1.5 oz's in the X-5. So, I would add enough to balance the car, and then it just depends on traction.

Maxamps lipo packs are double shrinkwrapped in both directions with a thick shrink wrap.

With my 6000 I got 40 min practicing and 33 minutes straight racing in our enduro with 4300 brushless. Driving style will have a lot to do with run time but that'll give you an idea. Based off of my previous numbers I would guess an 8000 would probably get me 45 minutes under race conditions.

Are you taking into account their 5% discount you get when you order. Also after you break $100 in orders you get 10% off. I know some of their stuff is a little more than other places but the batteries are good and inexpensive. Also how many places send hand written thank you notes. I got one with my purchase and then one at Xmas. To me that's worth a couple bucks just knowing they appreciate my business and are trying to keep it.
