Battery question

Hello,
I think i may have a pack with a dead cell. So i just want to know how can i figure out which one is bad. I have a multimeter but just not sure what to do.
Do i check the pack as 1 or do i break them up, and do they need to be charged or discharged when checking them?
Just dont know what i am looking for so a link or a good description of what I am looking for would be great.
thanks,

I have had dead cells only a couple of times but I could always tell by the voltage. Test each cell the dead one should barely show any voltage compared to the rest.

From discharged, charge the pack. Monitor the temp. The warmest one will likely be the dead cell.
Otherwise, check individual voltage when fully charged. the lowest voltage should be the culprit. Also, if the cell matched the one that heated up differently, you have even better evidence.
The newer side by side dischargers ie dpd or ctx-d will give this info but pretty expensive way to go unlless you want to be fairly regularly pulling cells apart for optimization.
I am not an expert by any means but, I think this will get you started.
