Some chargers faster than others?

I have 2 duratrax digital peak chargers and 3000nimh batteries take around 65 minutes to charge at 3 amps.

My brother-in-law said his "brain 959" can charge his 3000nimh in 35 minutes also at 3 amps.

I didn't belive this was possible but sure enough he charged his battery in half the time and to prove it he let me use it in my car and it ran for the same time as my batteries do ~20 minutes.

Why? Do some chargers charge faster than others? If so what's the fastest charger?

Or are his batteries just better? I have cheap Epic 3000, he has cheap Venom 3000.

Could his charger be charging at more amps than it is displaying?

It has to be charging at a higher amp rate.

It cannot get 3000 mah charge in 35 minutes at 3 amps. Impossible.

Simply; 3 amps is 3000 milli amp hours. Therefore it would take a minimum of one hour to charge a 3000 mah pack at 3 amps.

Sounds like his charges at about 5 amps.

First you would need both packs to be discharged to compare, so maybe he is not using all the capacity. 3000mah is 3000 mili amp hours, or 3 amp hours (samething) this means its capacity is capable of supplying 3 amps for an hour and vice versa for charging, at 3 amps it will take 1 hour. You cant change that, 3000mah at 3amps will take about an hour, so your charger is about right (might be getting a touch more that 3000mah in them.

If the other charger is putting in 3000mah in 35 minutes then it is not charging at 3 amps, it more likely charging at 6 amps (3000mah @ 6 amps draw or charge = 30 mins)

Hope that helps

Was his battery flat when he stuck it on the charger because if it wasn't it would finish in less time than yours.

Thanks for the responses.

his truck overheats, you can't even touch the motor for one second without getting burned and he doesn't let his batteries cool down very much before putting them back on the charger.

Is his truck stopping with the battery only half empty because it's overheating?

You said you used his battery in your car, how long did it take to charge after that?

Shrike 01-10-2007 06:41 AM

I think it took longer but still only around 45 minutes.
