Any news on when the next Novak B/L will be out. All I hear is rumours. Comparable to Hacker 7 turn??

JamminJ - that helps a lot , thanks I'll keep the updates coming as I get further into this. I've also ordered 81 and 87 tooth spurs as well as 25,26,28 tooth pinions so hopefully I'll have enough options at least to get started

kennedy....i haven't heard anything about a faster novak system. If Novak can make one that runs like an 8 turn and doens't thermal, that will be the future of electric rc racing for sure.

for foams,it's best to use rollout.
the gearing recommendations are based on 63mm rubbers.

I ran my first brushless race this past weekend in the elec open class with my tc3, im very pleased with the power with the system. Its no 10 turn, ill say its more like a 13-16 turn motor, and i was able to run a 6.4 final (72/28) the entire day without it shutting down. I also ran a 6.85 72/27 in practice and felt some loss of topend, so i went to a 6.4 and it was perfect. The motor was around 150f and the esc heatsink was around 175f right after the race.

There is a brushless class at this week's Novak Touring Car Championship. Has anybody heard what the guys are running for gearing- specifically in TC3s? Are they running foam or rubber tires in this classs?

Has anyone opened one up yet? Mine seems like the arm needs to be shimmed up a bit to take out about an 1/8 inch or so of play.

Jammin Jay, we've been bouncing between 7.25 and 7.99 ratios for the brushless at Trackside over the last few weeks. For tires, it's a handout CS 27 rubber tire. There are a few guys running fast so far. Lee Passehl with an EVO 3, John Ermer (no idea what chassis), Corey Galbreth (Evo 3), and Myself (xxx-s gp). Some of us have taken to using a small fan over the esc headsinks to prevent thermal shutdowns. I never had it happen before, but you know if I removed the fan now, the next race.....after the weekend is over, I'll let you know what we hit on for the ratio. OH, we're also running 6 minutes too.

How did the Novak system perform at the Touring Car Champs? It would have been nice to see them run foam tires to get a apples to apples comparison on lap times. Does anybody have any info on this????

That's me. Another alternative might be the new Orion Rev mods but that's another topic.

My question is: how do they stack up on a tight indoor carpet(foam) track in an open or unlimited class where you have guys of equal ability running 7Ts?

The one time I tried a B/L I rolled it about 25 mm and I was getting tire hop from the tires spinning, so I am waiting to try again running a B/L against 7-9t mods.

Jammin J, we ran rubber tires in stock which I would say is a pretty good comparison. We have some very fast people around here on Rubber Stock, and lap times were a tick faster with brushless versus stock. The cars seemed to be better behaved with the stocks though. I know if they have a foam only brushless class next year, I won't run it.

OB4, the 7-9 T motors would be faster then the brushless. Until the new motor comes out that is.

My brushless motor failed me this weekend, it was running fine and all of a sudden it stopped!!!!
It would only run if I spun the rear tires forward while holdiing down the throttle but as soon as I released the throttle it wouldn't run again!!
Anyway Novak says send it back it sounds like an internal motor problem

Scotty has already said next year's brushless class will be foam. It has to be, foam tires are where everything is heading. People can either accept it or end up not racing (sadly). I race and like both rubber and foam, but after a lot of thought, I have to agree that foam is cheaper and leads to a more even field in any higher level of racing. In novice/stock divisions rubber is OK. And of course, rubber is great outdoors.

Anyway, the brushless was fun this year, I'll do it again.
