Guys,

Whats the easiest way to keep my R2 from eating spur gears? Will the aluminum shaft supports fix this? I have tried to set the mesh tighter than I usually do but it still seems to do it. It hasnt been bad enough to keep me from finishing a race but changing spurs twice a day is a pain. Of course I was glitching the last race so I hit the wall more than usual. Even with this problem I still love the car and so does everyone that I have let drive it.

Thanks,

chris

The best thing to stop eating spur gears is the SpeedwayPAL drive system, it holds the drive shaft right next to the spur.

The best thing to stop it eating spurs whilst running it in stock form is to get the mesh good at one point and then turn the spur a little and check again, go all the way around and as you come across any tight spots re adjust the mesh. You also need to take care in meshing the bevel gears and then tightening the top deck and then lower chassis screws on a flat surface, making sure to do it in a start formation when tightening the different screws, Steve's written it better on the alexracingusa website.

What kind of spurs are you using? RW's gets chewed up pretty easily along with any delrin types. The best wearing ones for me are Kimbrough- going on 3 months strong with the same spur gear.

I think thats Flap graphite parts.
I agree delrin spurs are too soft, I also find my titanium pinions too sharp on spurs, HPI steels ones have rounder teeth, and a wider area for meshing with the spur, shame most my pinions are titanium, they worked great on my Lab with RW spurs, but there the spur didn't wobble one fraction of a millimeter ever and meshing was easy, went 9months with no signs of wear on the spur.

I am going to pick up an R2 from Speedtech as soon as Steve gets back from the nats. Going to see if he can get me a red kit soon. Are there any parts on the car I should upgrade right out of the box? What manufacturers make aftermarket parts for the car, please post websites if you have them. I am going to read this thread back a few pages to try and pick up some more info, but any tips or tricks are appreciated!
