Thumbs up

Nice one Herm - now I remember!! Us Brit's have to stick together on this

I ran my TC3 on very tight indoor circuits. The lock to the left was a hell of alot less than the lock to the right - so I modified the C hub carrier to allow the same amount of lock both sides. When all is going well in a race, especially in stock racing, you're absolutley right in saying that less lock is better ie less tyre scrub and less momentum lost. The thing is, on some tight track layouts you physically must have a generous amount of lock just to make the turn - let alone get inside those back markers on a narrow track.

Does anyone here know why Associated made the steering lock assymetrical on the TC3?

The amount of lock available (out of the box standard) was very much less than on any other car that I have known.

assymetrical steering lock is caused by the wrong length turnbuckles. I had it on my Cuda to start with, I actually got rid of it by setting up the digital trim on my Vantage II.

Red face TC3 Assemetrical Steering Lock

Herm: Nah, the problem I'm referring to is nothing to do with the turnbuckles or any other adjustment. It's to do with the C hub carriers on the TC3 (which are not handed parts) being used both sides of the car. Along one edge, there is more material than on the opposite side. This works out so that when operating the steering to the left, the left side steering block hits the hub carrier before the right side does when steering to the right - ie you have more degrees of right lock than you do left - even though all the rods etc are the right length/in the right place. All TC3's are like this. Except mine cos' it been modified.

I'm really suprised no-one has ever taken issue over this - have a closer look at those c hub carriers and you'll see what I mean. They're not handed parts - but they're not symmetrical either. I'm quite convinced this was a minor tooling error that never got addressed.

ah, well TC3's are boring anyway, they probably don't expect you to run with that much lock.
