The stock drive train is ok although the pinion will just reach the spur since it is mounted a fair way behind the spur. Its best to use long shank pinions if you do not upgrade the drivetrain.

The PAL drive system upgrade that a few of us have is so that there is less chance of the spur stripping during an impact. This is more important in mod. It ads an extra bearing to support the center shaft. It also moves the pinion closer to the spur so the meshing is better and eliminates the need for long shank pinions.

You can move the spur gear to the other side of the mount. That's how I run it, although I use strapping tape to hold the pack down, rather than the battery brace.

MikeR is a very competitive racer, and doesn't have any upgrades to his drivetrain, he still uses the stock plastic shaft mounts. I would recommend getting the aluminum one at least in the rear of the car to avoid shaft flex.

Did you break any of the ceramic bearings, or what discouraged you from them?

OK Boys and Girls....here is the latest from EXCEL...about the R2

THe pic`s that are there are not the finished product... the Main Chassis and Upper deck will be different...... but it looks like they Caned the Short Span arms...
anyways you get the Alloy front and rear shaft holders....Mid-SPan A-arms , EXCELS(PAL) rear hubs and front C-hubs.... EXCEL Drive system(PAL)...and a bunch of other goodies.... I have a buddy that has seen the EXCEL R2 CHassis and upper deck...and he said that it makes the Flap one look like.....well.... main chassis is 2.8mm Thick and upper deck is the same...

also it should be out really soon...around the 15th or sooner of this month..!!
yours for only 58000 Yen ..

But if you want the Latest and greatest...Talk with Steve from SpeedTech...because ...he can Get EXCEL stuff for the SD...so I think that he should be able to get this monster if you bug him enough hahhaha

also this R2 has every Hop up...minus the T1 screw set...

so you`ll save a bit of $$$ if you get this kit..

Default hop ups

since there are so many hop up for the cuda: Excel, Pal, Speedway, Square...etc...

is there a price/quality difference between the companies or are they pretty much the same?

so many versions out there. not sure where to start.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
