Default Why do Factory Modified guys runs 19-turn

Sponsored stock racer seem to always get bashed for not moving up to 19-turn or Mod but I never heard people voice their opinions about mod. racers moving down Roar made an attempt to increase the mod class at the expense of the stock class by reducing the # of cells, my opinion but maybe if the mods guys quit moving down then maybe the stock will move up lets talk about.

1. Is for more track time?
2. contract?
3. or just cherry pickin'

Most run it for track time......some get bonuses.....

I know Ralph Burch runs it simply to scrub in his mod tires....at least thats what he told me.

How about we only let the pro's run in their own class so everyone else can have a chance to win?

Oh wait, NORRCA used to do that. In fact, they used to crown Factory mod, Expert mod, Sportsman mod, Expert stock, Sportsman stock, and Novice national championships in both 2wd and Truck classes every year. Didnt work out so well for them.

Running two classes is always an advantage at a big race because it gives you more track time. Plain and simple.

Aside from that sponsors pay entry fees for their top racers. So the racers themselves don't always have a say in what classes they run. Most people overlook that little fact when they criticize the drivers.

I know that about 95% of the "Pro Mod" drivers do NOT want to run 19 turn. But all it takes is one "Pro" to sign up and then all the other companies feel forced to have their "pro's" run it as well so someone doesnt get an easy win.

I've heard Barry Baker, Ralph Burch, Todd Hodge, Toso, etc say they hate racing 19 turn on many occasions that it should be left for Stock guys to move up to....as it was intended for.

Until all the Manufactures can agree that their Pro mod guys will not run 19 turn it will be the way it is.

I hope it doesn't go away. It's extremely interesting to see the difference between the mortal (stock) guys as the pros on a even playing field. It really gives you some insight into how much improvement can be had over the guys that are so fast in stock, since they're generally equally quick in 19T, but a good bit behind the pros.

I've seen the big dogs run 19t at many places...cause if they DIDN'T they wouldn't have had enough MOD cars to make for interesting racing.

Sometimes racers have to go where the competition is...and if 19t is where all the TOP level drivers choose to go...I guess that means MOD got TOOO fast for most drivers to want to run it....so they will run where the 'mainstream' IS

I run 19turn for two reasons.

1.) Obviously more track time.
2.) Makes it nice to scrub tires in for modified.

Besides those two reasons, it would be nice to only run two classes at a big event. Unfortunately, when a top level driver signs up at a big event in 19 turn it causes a chain reaction to occur and many if not all other top level racers then also sign up. The more runs on a track with a sedan gives you more of a chance to dial your car in or possibly find an edge on the competition. With most of the races I have been to, IIC, Halloween Classic, Cleveland, Snowbirds, and the Nationals I usually run three classes making it a lot of work. The Novak race is the only race you can run two classes excluding 1/12th scale.

Pro 19T is where the fast stock guys go to remember what it's like to get lapped easily. :-D Seriously, don't quit guys, it's the only class where you can truly judge all drivers on an even playing field.
