Default Fuel Cells Meet RC

I got a kick out of this:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2071616,00.asp

Insanely expensive, but cool nonetheless.

The coming 5 years will be really intresting times in the world of electric racing. I think this will become something big in the not so distant future.

Fuel cells cannot deliver any kind of amps. They are very low current, unless you have a bunch of them.

If we go to hydrogen powered vehicles, it would be better to have a conversion for gas cars. You could run them indoors no problem because the only emission is water vapor. And they would acctually be powerfull.
They could do something like the CO2 canisters for BB guns. Maybe a refillable thing or something. Then just use some volts across two terminals in some water and viola, Hydrogen and oxygen off the other side too.

THAT would end all the battery wars really quick.

there's a slight problem with water sourced fuels. we fight over water enough now. do you really think its going to improve when/if we were using it up as fuel?
(while admittedly we have a massive amount of water, most of it is in a salty solution called ocean. it takes a bit of energy and time to desalinate it. Like petroleum based fuels, we would go after the easiest stuff to get first. Ie pumping fresh water. There's plenty of coal/oil here in the US and Canada but its quite a bit more costly to produce. Now that the liquid stuff is becoming harder to get, prices have gone up and is now making our local sources more feasible to go after.)

The article says the fuel cell is rated at 30W. Asssuming 7.2V, that's only 4.2A. That car's going to be the slowest $1500 car ever produced. I like the H2 internal combustion idea much better!

You know, I am glad someone else realized this and said something other than me. I said this on another forum, and dudes damn near had a heart attack! Saying it's new technology, it's saving the environment blah blah blah. For $1500, I want my vehicle to go PLAID!

Time to put rainwater catchcans in you backyard... Easier desalination methods are out there, it doesn't have to be fit for consumption....

Sorry to dig on old threads but this gut needs educated.

The current LiPo 3200 has only 23.7 watts of total power (rated per hour)

30watts / 15min runtime at full load =120 watts (same as our current stock motors can produce) .Runtime is about 30min and the current stock 17.5 turn Brushless only consume 130 watts Max.

Just to reply to the statement about this technology using up our valuable water resources is simply stupid since the by product of the cycle is water vapour so its a self replenishing fuel unlike oil, coal and other fossil fuels.

Slight problem with this. you can't 'use it up' like oil. It will recombine with the oxygen present in the atmosphere to create.. you guessed it.. water.
