Default New Quasar Pro Charger Smoked!!

Well I got to use my Quasar Pro 2 days before the thing smoked. I have read a lot of posts on here from ppl saying they have had problems with this charger and I thought I would ask if there is anything I can try before i send it in. I started charging my 4 cell lathe pack and about 15 minutes into it smoke started coming out of the left fan area, along with that lovely electrical smell we all know and love. After about 10 seconds into a charge now, it reads "Shut off due to overheat" or something like that. Any one had that happen and any ideas?

Sounds like a warranty item to me.

I had a Playstation 2 that quit playing DVDs and PS2 games 2 weeks after I bought it. Didn't save the receipt cause it worked fine for a week and I figured what's the chance, right! Now I know better.

Food for thought, I have heard lots of good things about these chargers and lots of bad things. The reedy comes with a 90 day warranty. Now Integy has the same charger the 16x7 pro, comes with backlight and the ability to turn off trickle charge. Plus get this a 5 year warranty! Just some food for thought. By the way the same company makes both chargers. Eagle Racing.

I'm not familiar with the Quasar. But many other chargers have a limitation, about charging less than 5 cells. Usually it's stated something like this in the manual: "If charging less than 5 cells, dont exceed 4 amps. Otherwise the charger might burn out"

I hope for you this is not the case. If it is, you should consider your phrasing, when you send it in

I charge 4 cells at 5 amps all the time on my Quasar. The Quasar apearently will limit the amplage for you though because when I try to charge 1-3 cell packs the charger never reaches 5 amps. Usualy it just starts stops increasing the charge ratea round 3 amps.

Default Quasar.

Cyclonus;

Mine works fine with small packs. I charge a 2 cell pack for motor break-in @ 4amps and my 4 cell pack in the Com lathe also at 4amps.
EDIT: I just noticed for the first time, when I charged my 2 cell pack, the charger limited the amps to 3 even though I had it set to 4 amps. My 4 cell pack charged right at the set point of 4 amps.

Question:

Do you guys have the same problem on your Quasars with the Amp display varying by 0.05 on either side of your set point. This shows up in the Voltage reading going up and down. My Integy (16-2) charger is dead on. With my Nitro 5 cell NiMh packs @ 1amp, this causes false a peak sometimes.

Also what version does the software say when you first power on? Mine is V 1.0
