Nice job on your recent victory. Just a quick question, why the change to lighter oil in the front? What were you looking for the car to do that justified this change?
Thanks Kraig,

I started with 40 in the front and worked my way up as traction came up throughout the week...........heavier oil keeps the car off the nose and easy to drive.

see you soon Josh

Corally's Team Manager and Owner, Rob Micheal was at the Nats and showed some of his latest offerings,

RDX Phi Carpet Chassis
- 3mm thick High Grade Graphite
- Inset servo and lead mounts to help keep CG as low as possible
- Inset motor section for the updated BL bulkhead
- wider width at the front and rear to reduce torsional flex
- Street price approx $100

Brushless Motor Bulkhead
- Insets BL motor mountain position 2.5mm towards the center of the chassis
for better weight distribution.
- allows a large range of possible gear ratios

You can see pictures of these parts at:

Hi Josh,

Besides your setup, your driving away from everyone showed your skill in that area too. Great job!

Questions...

Is your "milled bulkhead" the same as the new bulkhead that Corally/Specialized will be offering for BL motors?

What 88t spur are you using in your Novak/Nats setup? Are you using the smaller sized spur/pinion (64P) to intentionally get your motor back in the chassis? Seems like you would want it to be forward; or, am I missing something (48P)?

Your gearing of 88/33-32 with an internal drive of 2.0 equates to a 5.33-5.50 final drive...Is that right?

Many thanks. Bill

Thanks Bill,

The spur.....I don't know the brand.........I borrowed it from Bill Sydor. But i'll try to find out for you.

With the milled bulkhead you are a little limited on your gear selection. You can't run a monster spur and pinion......the motor just won't go far enough forward.........so thats why the smaller spur and pinion. Also the weight being farther back helps the car steer.

My bulkhead should be the same as the ones specialized does.

Yes I ran a 5.33 in 13.5 and a 5.5 in 10.5...........I know its way off what other people run but I don't think my car was slow.

Has anyone exparimented with running the short wheelbase setting for the rear mounts? What parts are required for the conversion?

I ran it up at SIR last year for the Nats. I liked it a lot as I thought it turned on a dime. The problem is I had to run the 2.47 internal gear ratio, which is fine for Stock. The advent of brushless though it wouldn't be ideal.

I have been talking with another team driver, Dave Bowser, who wanted to try it as well. So we ordered some custom belts to use the 2.0 internal ratio. I still think we need to work out one for the 1.71 ratio ulimately.

I need to look back into that again perhaps.
