Regarding LW vs RW - the lite bodies definitely work superior with foam/carpet combination. To a lesser degree with rubber tires from what I've been told. (if someone out there has found a huge improvement on rubber tires - correct me if I'm wrong) Body distortion has not been a negative issue. It is worth the effort to add a body support that just touches the body at the hood rear/cowl area, and if the sides are tucking in or vibrating, a couple strands of fiberglass tape applied vertically will solve that quite simply.
Most people that I have talked to who have run both the LW and Reg Mazda 6 felt like the lightweight one lasted longer due. It seemed as if the thinner lexan allowed the stress points of the body to flex more vs cracking (mostly the area above the front wheel wells).

I just love your country! My daughter lives in Noosa, so I've got this great excuse to get down there every year or two. It's always tough to come back home from Australia.

Incidentally, because of my fondness toward the good folks from Oz, (rc racers in particular) I'm going to start a project in the new year that I'm sincerely hoping you'll really like. It'll have a definite Aussie flavour to it. Can't give you any details yet other than the fact it will be released in the first quarter of 07. Oh, there are actually two details I can share with you guys: it's not going to be a Ute, and it won't have a molded in roo bar. He He !

Hooroo mates! - Dale - Protoform

After reading this post, I'm a little indifferent to the Mazdaspeed (no offense intended) and more interested in this project. I have one question, Ford or Holden?

THAT'S the body that was on the prototype Associated belt drive car at the asphalt Nats! And everyone tried to tell me it was the old Madza... I knew it was something new!

Looks nice.

Crewman SS??.. HAHahhaa!!!. WIll this new shell come with a roo-bar accessory? That would be VERY Australian.. RC world-first!

Dale - Can you explain the differences between your carpet shells and your onroad shells? What features dictate their intended function? Can you just use a carpet shell for rubber onroad?

- Noticed that the rear wing mounts are higher. To create more rear downforce? (Using cleaner air?)

Do the carpet shells create more/less steering, more/less drag etc. etc..

Not meaning to Hijack the post - but I'm sure some other people would like to know.

That little bit about the wing cutouts for example. No idea what it was for previously. Having it explained here directly was much better than the club guys randomly guessing and speculating..

I posted a couple of new photos of the MazdaSpeed 6 on our web site. This time I had the photographer us the proper lens. He accidentally used a wide angle lens for the first shoot, and it kinda distorted the look of the body adversely. I should have caught it.

If anyone out there is curious of the paint scheme - no, it didn't come from some argyle socks - it's from the BK Racing's Courage-Mazda C65 LMP2 racecar. I saw it at SEMA

(check out the photo credits on that link - John Thawley: the former ROAR president) interesting

Hope you're all having a great Thanksgiving! Try to remember - give thanks.

Which was based on the Mazda 787B that won LeMans in the early 90s... excellent choice. Might have to paint one of the new bodies up in this scheme.
