These are the same people that would buy a Lamborghini to drive to work everyday if the price was right.

Yet it is thought by some that we need $90 kits to get racers to the track.

The "RC hobby" and "RC racing" are not the same, and appeal to different people. There is some crossover, but it's pretty low, like maybe 5% or less? So the real problem is not that we need those 10-20 T-maxx guys to come out to race, but that they don't care and aren't interested in that segment.
That is one major part of an overall bigger problem.

As awhole we need direction a race by. As much as I believe in rules. Applyed to the new racer he'll walk, a new racer is not about rules . He's about a good time with comrads, turn off the phone get away. No hassel fun.
IF YOU SET RULE'S ON A NEW RACER IT DISCOURAGES THEM TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND FORCES THEM TO RACE. A run what you brung no rule class should be the 1st on the list. Then a ruled class.

I believe that a new racer should never be held to any sanction rules on a club level. New racers are a breed of there own. Any race director should be able to detect and address those people. By promoting a path for racers to follow.
You should be able to force a person to bump up a class. By proper promoting a new racer or club racer should be able to understand and bump to a more advanced class. Guidlines to the allowed motors or batteries are set per class. That is a rule everyone excepts or they dont race. And if they dont want to race then an exsibition class could be good for that person or person's, a buddy class if you will.

And if a new racer is bumped down? Some one didnt do there job from the moment they came in the door. Everyone should run to that racer and give him a big hug.

Now the back yard basher Tmaxx what have you?
I believe that is the last line of defence in an attemp to keep an XRACER in our hobby. I would rather see them racing but it keeps revenue up and racer prices down. IT WILL ALSO KEEP THEM CLOSE IN CASE WE EVER CAN GET THINGS TO WHERE THEY WOULD WANT TO RACE. Back yard bashers are just trying to be free spirited and there not getting that at the clubs. I would leave them in the back yard bashing for now. Those little cars that are'nt selling put a 360 degree bumper brushless lipo in. Say try this and and see if it gets any one intrusted. Tell me that would'nt be a learning how to drive class? Tell'm they have to marshall there own cars. And when a look see'r runs out to marshall it for him he will have made a friend. Offer it free on practice days. No time limit, we like visitors to hang.

If your running on a flat? You have 2 options!
1 pull over air it up, and hope to get it fixed later.
2 pull over put on a brand new spare. Either way you will have to exert yourselves to fix the darn thing.
There is no third option. Were in the middle of no where with no service.
I believe brushless lipo is the spare.Unless you want to run that flat to the rim?

I'm going to lose sleep for a while!

EXAMPLE:

I'm a new potentilal racer. I see every colored wheel, Every tire compound from soft to hard.
I see cool bodies porsce and so on, cool batteries. Every possiible hop up. I cant wait to get my new obsessoin together.
I'm itching to tweak, crash, learn spend endless amounts of time with my new passion.

The purchase is made! I show up to play with my new hobby. And I find out I need 27s not 22s, I need 3800s not lipos. The brushless motor is to big for that class, And my truck body is not Allowed. And my car is to light. Its snowing out side and the asphalt is buried. I guess practice day would be the only option.

I remember racing statoin wagons. And Vans years ago. All in one class. Where did those days go? I deffinitly see true Club racers as a dieing breed.
It's a dellima. We need a creed or operating procedure. The old unspoke'n racing code need's revived. I see this new breed of motror's and batterie's as an oppertunity to revive the racer. We should approach this and respect it for what it truely is worth.

I'm not plugging that I want to be a man of that stature. I'll just say dont tell me to ride my horse hard so he'll be thirsty when I reach water. Until you have ridd'n him 1st.
I am the the Dieing breed.....X!

Anyone who knows me can tell ya I practice what I preach!
I remember my 1st carpet race there were 8 in the line up.
4 tranny cars, A 12th scale 2 sedans some funny looking HYBRID I cant tell what museum this car came from but I rememder the bumper was huge. I think it was tyco or nikko?
Any how of the 8!
3 of us made it.
To just make it simple it was an open beginners class.
OH the laughter those day's.
In those days if there was'nt a class we made one to fit your need's.

You want to change this hobby???
Start with additude.
Except who and where you are in the line up.!
From the slowest to the fastest.
Take on a roll of keeping enjoyment in the hobby.
Laughter reels you in, and its the laughter that will make you stay with it.
If a man is down PICK HIM UP!!!
You want your facility to make it? It takes the partcipation of the racers to keep the lights on.
Remember some people just like a place to hang out.
I now believe that rule's where the #1 reason for the decline of new racer's.
Some where we lost our way? We got caught up in trying to make it fair.
The open begginers class just is'nt on the sheet anymore.
I would like to say it was the year I was away saving a good marriage.
But I'm a man that except's his roll at the track. NEAR OR FAR.
Keep the enjoyment in it, that with some new sparks from the big boy's.
and we may save this class.
