Soldering New Cells
Simple Question: In the past I have always ruffed the + and - ends to the battery to apply solder and bars.
Is there a better way that does not potentially damager the heat protective wrapping on a new cell? |
Clean the ends of the cells with high concentration (70% or 90%) isopropyl alcohol from any drug store. Scuffing the cells doesn't doesn't necessarily make for a better contact but ensures that you have pretty clean surface. The alcohol should do the same thing and won't hurt the shrink wrap link acetone might.

You can also scuff the cells using a dremel and sanding drum. Just start in the middle of the cell, and work your way out in a circular motion. If you’re careful, you should not come in contact with the shrink. Once scuffed in, apply motor spray to a rag and wipe off all left over residue on the cells.
