You say a ROAR owned track, is that onroad, offroad, oval, indoor, outdoor. If it is not all, then someone feels slighted.

I'm an onroad racer, but if for what ever reason an offroad track would be more popular/profitable at the particular spot that is chosen then i would assume they would choose offroad so it can profit and can send more funding. As for anyone feeling slighted I would hope they understand that proceeds from what ever track can contribute to enhancing ROAR. Maybe a more valid question would be what would be cut from the budget to get something like that started?

the other idea that i'm all for is the roar info sheet to be added to manufacturers kit. That info sheet can maybe direct the new hobbyists to the roar site which will have a directory for tracks around the area.
Ive seen so many people playing with thier R/C cars and was surprised that there is a local track a few miles away.

This was suggested several times for the Ex Com to review as a potential model. Of course...deaf ears.

Oh, its the old: if its not my idea, it wont work!

And they wonder why people like me only join when we have to so we can run at a roar required club or regional.
I ran 2 regionals last year and SARCAR lost its track and only had a few races this summer, not enough to buy the membership for.
I was an SCCA member for over 20 years, I know what they did for the members, it was all good and worth the money at the same cost as ROAR.

After reading your commentary of the ROAR participation at the carpet nats a year ago in one of the mags, I know you didn't vote for the status quo.

And please keep in mind, br00d is an OEM company.....other than a few tools (last I checked these don't fall under ROAR), we don't make anything. We buy it from trinity, smc, reedy, orion, checkpoint, etc....

From my understanding, Mike Queller is a distributor and Carl supposedly is (I may be wrong on this, but thats what I was told.).....a distributor can basically control a product more than I can.......look no further than Great Planes with OS Engines, Futaba, or Checkpoint......or Horizon with Losi......regardless of which of us wins, you are going to have someone from the business side of the industry.....please also keep in mind, that the ROAR glory days were during the time when Mike Reedy was president......it worked before, would work again.

I rarely ever build a motor or anything for my company.....I do some ordering and bring in new products.....and handle the money.....the rest is done by my employees. I am also hiring Mike Dumas to come up an assist with the day to day operations. I only build motors at the big races......and if I am there doing that, suddenly your ROAR president is at the big events.

As for my positions.....well, I have been on the ONROAD Comittee for over a year......as well as almost a year as regional director. I have been racing for over 15 years. My day job has me working for a non-profit with over 550 employees. One that I took over as CEO in 2000 with revenues around 5.5 million and have increased to over 20 million a year not counting the casino, which pushes them over 65 million....yeah, I think I have the qualifications.

The regional race system will work......the World trips was more of show of how the TCS system works. I think the awards should be done at regionals for both privateers and pros.....sending our champs to these races is hardly a waste though, winning a world championship for your IFMAR block can be used a big tool in advertising and prestige to the organization. Ask any college football recruiter.....any team winning from their confrence helps in recruiting for ALL the schools.....people want to play with the champs.......in this case, they will get to race with them.

As for the National Qualifying system......we will have to have a waiver system....just like they use at Worlds, but however in the end, people who qualified will have first shot, but I am pretty sure this will rarely happen. This also plays more into having minor races sanctioned......so we can develop a point system, as another means to qualify for regionals.

National Tracks is an idea that will work. Clubs all over the country have managed to scrap up volunteers off limited funds....ROAR stepping in and buying a piece of property for a track will work......and if it doesn't, land holds value and can be sold as an asset if the plan doesn't work.

I would hope people are voting for me because of my ideas and experience, not because of my popularity.....all I know, you see some pretty heavy hitters already posting they are voting for me......ones with a lot to lose if I do a bad job.....that should say something to a lot of you.

Later EddieO
For the record:

Carl ("I") is in no way affiliated with the RC industry as a manufacturer or distributor. 15 years ago, while in school I worked full time at Bruckner Hobbies, so I fully understand the retail and consumer side of the business. I purchase all my own products, which means I do not receive "free" products from any manufacturer. I've been the region 2 director for the past 3-years.

Just wanted to squash any rumors.

Just curious if there's a particular reason why this thread has been made a sticky while the Vote for Carl Threads haven't? Was this a deliberate move or meant to serve as an endorsement for one candidate over another or simply an oversight?

Ok, thanks for the reply. To help foster a better debate though and help encourage discussion from all sides though, wouldn't it be a good idea to sticky the discussion threads for all candidates, regardless of endorsement or affiliation?

If this was a neutral public forum, I would be inclined to agree. Since Shane owns this forum, he can do as he pleases.

Eddie has my vote.

I will get to the point. I've gotten e mails and pmís from people who support my points, others don't. Thatís ok.
But here is some info that was sent to me about why quite a few people in the business don't feel he will be good for ROAR or RC Racing.

"In 2004, Eddie used his influence (i.e. abundance of Cash) to hire strippers to come to his room at the Holiday Inn at Cleveland during the US Indoor Champs. At least one MINOR was in the room at the time.

More recently, at the 2006 Snowbirds, he made a scene at the hotel.
Several of his team guys toilet papered his room, including his bathroom.

Eddie was pissed off and got into a shouting match with one of the clerks because there wasn't a maintenance person on site at 1am to clean up the mess and unplug the toilet that HIS TEAM had done.
Now, the person behind the counter went out of his way and offered to get Eddie into a NEW ROOM!!!! Instead he pissed and moaned and degraded the person behind the counter and stormed off. His solution instead was to go to the hotel convenience store and purchase...a PELLET GUN! He proceeded to shoot people in the ass that were responsible.
Now, this might seem funny, but the pellet gun looked like a real gun!
If I am some spectator and I see this, I am wondering WTF?!?!?!

Eddie is a Thug. Pure and simple. Unfortunately, I fear that he represents the new crowd of on-road drivers over the last 5 years or so and is BAD FOR THE HOBBY. "

It's taken me a while to verify this info. And why won't these people come forward??? hmmmm

Take this information as you want. But it is true.
And this is about Eddie, not me.
