Default The 4-Tec: RC Sad Story that NEEDS FEEDBACK!!!!!

Ok, here's the story....

Once upon a saturday, me and my friend went racing. I owned a FT TC4 and my friend had just gotten a 4-Tec. Once my friend started racing everyone said that his car sucked. They said that the car isn't supposed to be raced and he should either get a TC4 or XRay T2 sport. My friend asks me, "which car should I get?" Can I get a little help here, which car SHOULD HE GET?

Things to keep in mind

1. I have lots of spare TC4 parts
2. My friend has a budget of $300
3. I can lend him an extra radio system and reciever.
4. He's planning on getting a $50 novak esc.
5. He already has a charger and tools and soldering iron.

Thanks to everyone who responds

Let your friend try your car. If he likes it, it may be a good idea for him to get a similar car. Yall can share parts, help each other with setup etc. You can probably get some nice tc4's for well under 300 as well, living room for batteries, motors, parts etc.

You can pick up Factory Team TC4's from AE's site for $199 right now. www.rc10.com

If going Brushless is an option, he might want to consider a XXX-S Brushless RTR. It comes with a Novak 4300 Brushless system, so he desn't need to worry about motor maintainence, brushes, etc. Also, it is an RTR and comes with a really good radio system too. Plus, if you guys are going to be running on parking lots, the XXX-S drivetrain is completely sealed too, so he won't pick up pebbles and debris in the driveline. You can find more information about it here:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSA0287

This way too, you don't need to lend him anything at all.

If you can find some used cars on Ebay it might be cheaper than trying to buy new.

If you guys both end up with TC4's, you guys can work together on setting up the cars. $300 budget also could use some help. Luckily you are willing to loan a radio to him.

I have a T2, easiest car to drive I've ever had but a bit pricey especially for someone on a budget. Good luck to both of you on whatever you guys decide.

Default RTR

I am willing to help my friend build his car. He's very interested in being fast and winning. He won't know his car with a RTR and will not be able to tune his car while knowing what he's tuning. So please, no RTR requests.

Thanks for all the fast posts
Great Feedback!

IMO your friend should continue to race his 4-Tec improveing and honing his driving skills and set-up knowledge until HE feels he is ready to step up to a better chassis. This hobby is about fun and learning not what you have to have to race!

I had to check, site is showing this amount?!

Typo? The conversion kit is priced higher than the FT kit itself, makes no sense.

I have a tc4 that i have as a backup and have been thinking of getting the conversion. Might just have to break the piggy bank now to get a whole new setup.

I have a T2, like it alot, It looks like you can find a lot of T2 rollers that look to be in good shape. (more than the team tc4, i have). The corally is the hot car alot of the hardcore racers are upgrading so you may be able to find good condition T2s.

Can't beat the 199.00 price though.. (can't believe that's right)

The Cyclone S is a lot of car for the money. For 169 it comes with a body and wheels & tires - which is $50 worth of stuff that doesn't come with the FTTC4. I like the FT and the Cyclone - I have both, but if you're on a budget, the Cyclone S is the better bargain, and maybe even the faster car of the two. Sure, it can use a couple of upgrades, but they aren't that big of a deal - they can be done later if you want.

Check Stormer Hobbies, they have a sale for $190 on the TC4. I would seek a clean used roller on ebay myself (with spares).

This is not mine, just trying to be helpful. Have fun!
