Default shock question

Ok I have a question about shocks. I allways seem to have a hard time getting the xray shocks right. Has anyone replaced the xray shocks with another brand and if so why. The reason I ask is that a local fast guy just bought a tamiya car and said that the kit was ugly to build except for the shocks which are "butter". So that got me to thinking that if the Tamiya shocks are that much better would thay fit on my xray

Yep I have read and tied the tips both there and on the xray site, thay do help but still seems tougher than it should be. Also if you notice one of the tips is to replace the shock collar with the one from tamiya which leads me to belive that it might fit but I'm not sure about the top of the shock and the mounting system.

Chris,

First of all what is the problem you are having with your xray shocks? leaking? air in them? what? Here is how I buld mine from the step of hving the pistons installed and ready for oil.

Pull shock shaft to the bottom of the shock, fill shock body with desired shock oil, move shock shaft up and down to get any air that may have been trapped under the piston to come to the top, repeat this three or for times, wait for all of the air bubbles to rise to the top of the shock and disperse, place shock bladder in the shock body using the end of an x-acto handle to ensure that the bladder is not being pushed up from excess oil, scew shock cap on, try and push the shock shaft up now, you will probably not be able to. Now lower the bottom shock cap off of the shock body and push the shock shaft in. This allows you to blead off the excess shock oil and get the proper rebound needed for each shock. once you get the desired rebound put the lower cap back on and you should have a shock described as "Butter"

Hope this helps.

Jim

Thanks Jim, that is close to the same way i build them, the only difference is that I let the shocks self-bleed by inverting the shock and leting the shaft slowly decend into the shock body. No problem per se just looking for an easier way if it exists. In reality its not that its a major problem but I'd like them to be a bit more equal. Seems many times that one shock is stuborn and I have to build it twice or three times to get it equal to the others. Mabey I'm just too picky Also I read that the tamiya shocks have a different bleeding system and a fluorine coated cylinder lining which reduces the drag, making the shock smoother.
