Should A123 Lithium be allowed in stock?
Should A123s be allowed in stock at the club level?
A123 type batteries in a 2 cell pack would be about 6.6V. Wouldn't this be a disadvantage anyway compared to matched nimh 7.2V packs? Of course, I would observe all minimum weight limits.
At our track, lipos aren't allowed in stock. So I brought up, well how about A123 lithium 6.6V batteries, and the track owner says he isn't so sure. He said to bring some in to test and we'll see. I'll bring some in to test this weekend and let everyone know how it performs.
I, like I am sure some people are as well, ready to give up, or get rid of all nimh soon and go to nothing but lithium batteries. Lipos or A123s are just easier to maintain and cheaper than nimh batteries in my humble opinion.

Even if they legalize it - nobody would use it for stock. That battery is too big to fit in most chassis. The voltage is too low and even with the weight savings, the low voltage will still result in a slower car. You will get passed on the straight.
They are coming out with a smaller 18650 sized cell, which would be a good alternative for 4 cell 1/12th scale.

IMHO, yes. A123 LI-ION should be allowed in stock. If need be the voltage issue can be addressed by the use of a Turbo module.( this would also help with the weight issue) Several different chargers can be used with a Dapter circuit. Yes they are large-but with the 4600 you can run quite a while on one charge. I've managed to fit a MEC SPT A123 4600 in my TC. The standard pack (4600) from A123 will fit an As. TC-5. And I believe they are the safest cells out there. Don

As another point, maybe a good choice for newbies too- less power, less crashing and less money on broken stuff.
Just gotta make sure its used but not abused though....

It's sold by A123 Racing. About the size of a sp control. It boosts voltage to 7.2,8.4,9.6 or 10.8 on a 6.6 volt pack. Wattage is 200. It also works with a 3 cell pack. ( different voltages) Don

So far, it seems no one is against A123s. If this was a, "should LIPOs be allowed in stock class", there would be numerous people against. Is there anyone who disagrees with allowing A123s?

1.25 x 6 = 7.5 V std. 6 cell
2 cell lipo is 7.4 V
It looks like the track in our area is going to allow lipos in all the classes.
If you want to be fast you buy the best 1.2+ cells you can get your hands on so you will have a higher output Voltage than the lipo anyway
