Please help a JRXS-R sedan noob here...

I"m going to be running 13.5 rubber/asphalt & foam/carpet & I"m trying to find out gearing for both so I can order gears.

I was told with a 108t 64p spur, I would need to be in the low to upper 50's on pinion, but when I try to calculate it. I come up with high 30's to mid 40's. Am I doing something wrong? What would you seasoned drivers suggest I be starting at?

Thanks for your time, Ron

Thanks, that's where I'm getting my #'s.

My problem is, I don't know for sure what pinion I want. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right. I don't want to order a bunch of gears & find out I'm wrong.

Can someone confirm I'm in the ballpark or way off.

Thanks, Ron

Ok...

108 spur/ 52T pinion= 3.80 Final Drive
108 spur /50T Pinion= 3.95

For outdoor rubber tire racing, you'll probably want to be in the 3.7-4.0 range.

Here's what you'll need to buy: get 104 & 108 Spur gears. For pinions try from 50-53. That will cover you pretty much from asphalt to carpet.

On the car that the car that he is getting already has a 108 on it. He needs pinions between 50 and 55.

Heres what I ran for the weekend.... I had TQ stiched up on the 1st day so I tried some other ideas for the 2nd days qualifying so I could see if I could improve but they simply didn't compare.

Gonna try this out with my 4.5. Is that droop written as "4", "0", or "9"?

Dragonfire and Pablo Diablo--> Thanks for the help and support over the weekend at MMM. I really appreciate it. If I can do anything to return the favour, just yell! Had a good time there!! Love your driving too... the A3 Final was a hoot to watch...

I personally have 2 of Pablo's layshafts in my hand, and they are a work of art. Didn't manage to get them in the car over the weekend of racing at MMM, but I've put them in for the local club racing to see how they go. Dragonfire's setup will require a smooth throttle finger, as well as a smooth wheel hand. I got a bit lost on setups on the Saturday of qualifying (lack of sleep and ultra epic brain fade) and I tried Dragonfire's setup and it kind of worked well enough for me to qualify 9th in the A. I have since gone up to a 20lb front spring and a .060 swaybar in the front to deaden the steering a little for my style of driving. I'm pretty ham-fisted....

Sorry I am generally not a neat writer. My droop is 3mm over front ride height and 4mm over rear. Depending on grip level going up one rate on front spring or down one rate on the rear should give a more driveable car with only a minor loss of steering.
