Thanks for taking the time - you've convinced me to wait a while before considering brushless for my car.

The only escs I was aware of that have a problem starting are the homebrew pic chip based sensorless controllers for rc planes - I didn't even consider that a sensored controller could have a problem with this.

I still can't understand why the controllers get hotter in sportsmans mode - my understanding of how they work must be flawed

Arthur , The Sphere Esc performs better than any other available ....

It never clog`s on the other modes ....

Don`t expect a 2 star to perform like a stock motor with a push of a button...
Unstead buy the proper "wind" brushless motor such as the Novak 13.5....

and use the "Mod" mode available on the Sphere...

This will give you the performance you expect.....

I don't doubt it, but the club I race at doesn't currently recognise the 13.5 motor as a stock equivalent - I know a couple of the guys are looking into it so maybe that will change.

The lack of grip where we race levels the field powerwise, the 24K rpm limit seems to work really well as it gives close racing with the brushed motors. The Novaks with the 5800Kv motors seem to be working really well whilst the Spheres seem to require careful gearing to avoid overheating. We have two LRPs that have runtime problems although the other guy (not Chris) definately has suspect cells - the brushless setup seems to be no more efficient than the brushed as he's dumping with around a minute to go in out 7.5 minute race the same as he did with the brushed 27t setup.

I'm an LRP man, the only Novak controller I ever liked was the Cyclone JMO - from what we've seen so far at the track the Novak seems to be easier to gear and more what I'd expect for a club racers powerplant.

I think we're agreed on the 13.5 unlimited thing.

Well guys, after trying the ratios listed below:
9.42
8.28
8.12
8.01
7.92
7.28

My conclusion is the same as Wild Cherry's, sportsmans mode is bag of daz, I have never had so much time in trying to find a optimum gear to compromise battery dump, there is some big issues somewhere with this LRP system, perhaps it is ok in modified mode but its very poor in sportsmans mode.

I have sent the complete thing back to Helga distribution today for there inspection / credit, will keep you informed what there findings are.

Many thanks on this one guys,

Allt the best,

Chris

Regards,

Chris.
