Hmmm.....

Thanks for all your replies. I am still confused though.

Is the best charge rate for performance 3.2 amps or 6.4 amps....

I have not put 1 single charge in it yet and want to always charge at the same rate..

Will charging it at 6.4 amps compared to 3.2 amps make a big difference in "punch"?

Orion/Peak recommends 1 (one) amp per 1000mah, for charging. You will not notice more punch, and its not like it charges twice as fast at 2c

BOTTOM LINE charge it at 3.2 and be done with it, that way you know you did it the way it was recommended

Well, Mr Black bascially said it was safe to charge them at 2C, so that's good enough for me.

Default Team Orion / Peak Racing

Hi guys, this may be a dumb question.
Ok here goes.
What is the difference between the Team Orion 3200 / 4800 lipos and the Peak Racing 3200 / 4800 lipos? Cos they seem like the same thing to me!

Then what is the reason for the different branding?

I dont think they make the cells maybe they buy them from a OEM company and put their stickers on it just like their brushless motor line.

Orion and Peak use to be partner companies that developed products together. Many of there products were the same with different brandings. If you look at many (or all) Peak products there was an Orion version. Now Orion owns Peak outright so I'm not sure if they'll continue to use the Peak name on products....

Hope that helps,
Roly

I agree. If one of the head guys at Orion says its good to charge at 6.4 amps then thats sounds good to me..

Does it charge quicker at 6.4 amps?

If you are only seeing 6 amps for the first 500mah then you are over cooking the battery. This means the voltage goes up to 8.4 at the very beginning of the charge and the battery is struggling to handle current coming into it at this rate.

...I'll have to dig and see where I can find what I read on the 3200 lipos from Kokam, but somewhere I had found where Kokam themselves said it was OK to charge at the 2c rating, even though at the time ORION had said to only charge at 1c.

Being the 3200 pack is a 2p1s pack, would it not be only putting 3.2 amps into each cell if charging at 2c? Or is it dumping the entire 6.4 amps through both batteries?

(I know in charging automotive batteries - that are hooked in parallel you divide the amperage by the number of batteries being charged to calculate how much charge each battery is being given)

So if that's the case, if you are using a NON Balance charger, and the charger output is 6.4 amps, I'd think only 3.2 amps reaches each cell in the pack... (SOMEONE CORRECT ME)
