I presume the Duratrax Ice is capable of charging such batteries. What charge rate would you reccommend for charging?

I normally run down at a Hobbytown Race and we have 2 qualifiers and 1 main. The qualifers are 4 minutes each and the main is 5 mins. So in total its 17 minutes of racing plus practice so about 25-30 mins total.

Would this Orion 3200 be able to run on a single charge or would you reccommend charging in between runs?

dude its only a 3200mah pack, i tested it only has about 2200mah of usable energy b4 it reaches 6v, so you can only run it maybe 6.5minutes. so u can do the math.

good thing is you dont need to wait for the pack to cool b4 u re-charge.

I ran my Orion 3200 for the first time Wednesday night. I run a B4 in the stock class. The battery worked great. I charged it earlier in the day and arived at the track with the battery allready installed and ready to go ( mI got their 5 min before the race started). After the 5 min heat race I recharged the battery (took about 20-25 min), ran another 5 min heat race (recharge 20-25 min), and then the main. I had zero problems.
P.S. I am using the Scorpion balance charger.

So what type of balancer do I need to get and will it go inline .Or what will I have to do to make one go in line (if possible?) I previously had a 4800 that would not fit in my TC.So it's been several weeks trying to get all this stuff together and fitting into the car (RDX PHI).The 3200 are still a tight fit but it will work. Another question is it safe to plug the ESC directly into the battery.I plan on making a pig tail to keep the esc wired and a plug to charge the battery. I'll never have to remove either plug.I've ordered the Corally plugs that fit the batteries.
You don't really need a balancer. When each cell gets out of balance, you will need to charge each cell individually. The 3200 has that center connector. I think its a 2mm. Connect the charger's positive connector to the battery's positive and the charger's negative to that center connector and charge accordingly. After that 1st cell is finish, connect the charger's positive to the center 2mm connector and the charger's negative to the battery's negative and charge away.
I've ran mine for 3 weeks for 3 races so that's about 9 cycles. I checked the voltage on each and each voltage is even...

to answer my own question... the Trackpower balancer works on the Orion/Peak. Tried it and love it.

hey guys just for any one on the fence bout lipo's
i bought 2 lipo's thinking if i need a min of nimh packs for a nights racing then ill need to lipo's WRONG.
i used a nimh for a practice run came in chaged packs ran my lipo 1st run came in back on charge no waiting. waited half hour next run or 1st qualifier same thing back on charge not waiting. did this for 3 qualifiers and for the final i had 30 mins max to charge my battery and at 1c i wasnt confident to run it especially seen as its an 8 min final.
u can get a nights racing about 6 runs total in 5 hours so not bad. im gonna bump up to about 4.5 amps just so i can make it easier a mate charges at 5 and so far so good im going to get a balancer just because i want my packs to last.
so thans orion/peak for such sweet products. my nimnh are now practice packs lol

You should charge it first. It won't hurt a thing to do so.

It needs a charge. They ship with around 50% I think.

I take it its reading the output of the battery, seems to me thats fully charged.

Am I reading that correctly.

Nope, fully charged with these batteries is at 8.4V. The 7.4 number is its nominal voltage just like NiMH packs are listed at 7.2V but they charge to over 9V.

The battery comes with around an 80% charge and it is recommended to charge it fully (8.4 volts) before use.

Charging the 3200 @ 2c

I know I read someplace a while back that ORION supports these batteries being charged at 2c (6.4 amps)

Is this info on the ORION Web Site anywhere?
