Also why is there only a synthesizer module for the M8, is a Futaba magnum junior good enought to race and what does an M8 or Futaba 3pk have that would help with racing. I really could never justify the cost of a super radio. Help with decisions please

Whatever you do, don't ever buy a computer! There's always gonna be something new coming out anyway you look at it. Look at all the old JR R-1 racer's who thought they had the sh*t and then comes the new JR R-1, same thing with the new KO Mars with the 1GB LAN. My best advise for you is to shop around for the best price.

I have a friend that uses a $50 AM radio and is one of the top racers at our track.

No, I'm not suggesting you to not get a M8. Airtronics/Sanwa make quality transmitters and receivers. It's all in the eye of the beholder. You buy what you think will be good. I can tell you this, you won't go wrong with buying a quality radio from either, Airtronics, KO, or JR. I would also include Futaba but I had one that went bad.

One of the Hitech radios also has a synthesizer module available. Its bit cheaper than the m8 too.

I'd go ahead and spend the extra coin to get an M8. I love mine, it's so nice, and it's actually really easy to program. Airtronics makes very high quality product, I've never had a problem. Believe me, you may think the extra features aren't really worth it, but when you start racing, you'll find yourself using them all.

m8 or 3pk. Of course i'm attracted more to the m8 cus of the price but i don't want to get it and they come out with a better one. I have magnum junior now and what bells and whistles on the m8 do you think are useful.

PCM and FM are both fine for racing. I'm sure at least 85% of all the R/C cars racers on this planet use FM. I've never heard anything bad about a FM radio not being good as good as a PCM when it comes to racing. FM is fine-trust me. PCM radios will drain your radio batteries before you know it.
