Formula 1 bodies question
 
Hey guys, maybe one of you knows....

I just got into F1 racing 2wd. my kit came with the 312 T3 ferrari body from 1969 or so.... I know that touring cars have aerodynamic differences between bodies.... do F1 cars share the same trait?

I'm wondering which of the Tamiya bodies is the best for the F103rs. any clues.... i found 2 on towerhobbies, Mtype and Ftype and i know theres a bunch more outthere. help. :confused:

Not sure about the Tamiya body types, but I can address the aerodynamics. The touring car bodies compared to the F1 style bodies is much different, alot in the way of efficiency and down force. Full size bodies are more efficient due to the passage of flowing air around smooth portions of the body. The front of the car pushes and moves the air over and to the side, eventually meeting behind the car. The back of the car does cause drag because it's not smooth causing turbulence in the rear, slowing the car. The F1 bodies have more of the car exposed (tires and suspension) causing more drag, and as a result less efficient. Downforce is the force caused by air pushing on the car and body towards the ground. Since touring car bodies have more of a body than a F1, more downforce is created by a touring car. The F1 compensates by utilizing a front and rear wing. The shape of the body and the wings dictates how the car will handle on the strait, and in the corners. Good luck.
