got a 1990ish Schumacher Bosscat. One of the rear arms is broken, but its still driveable. I used to race it so its full carbon fiber, tub chassis. Have some spare parts to. I have lugged this thing around for over 15 years from highshool, threw college and so on. I put a battery pack in it last weekend and it ran flawless.

I don't have that variety of manufactures as I collect Tamiya only and almost all onroad. However, I do have about 65 NIB kits dating back to the early '90's TA01's, over 100 body sets from current to early '90's, about 25 fully restored to original spec cars from the TA01 Mercedes 190E and Axia Skyline through TA02's, TA02-W, TA02-SW, TA03's in -F, -R and -RS versions up to a 415 MSX-MRE with one one of Marc Rhienhard's actual race bodies signed by him. My favorite is my first onroad car, the Tamiya Racing Master Porsche 956 Rothman's. It is full period restored including the blue end bell 540 endurance motor. It currently has the Toyota 84C body on it but I have a new in bag 956 body with the Rothmans stickers ready to finish her back to original mid '80's form.

Default Kyosho Optima

Has anyone heard any news of Kyosho doing re-releases of their "old skool" buggies. I would like to see the Ultima, Original Optima, Turbo Optima, Optima Mid, Optima Pro and so on. I'd like to also run these at the local track in a vintage class. I'd still want an original restored Optima and a runner re-release version.

I may pick up a Tamiya re-release but I'd really like to see some Kyosho's since as a kid growing up, the Optima was the car that got away.

Here's one for you guys. This is what I just finished. It's 100% original, and all period-correct for right around 1987/1988.

I'm about 90% done on the JRX2 project. I found this car earlier this summer on eBay sold by a guy who had built the car when he was 12 (20 years ago) and could never get it to work right. It was new, poorly built, had a few broken parts but overall relatively complete and relatively unused.

When I got it, it was found to need a lot to be really perfect. It has an original body, but 12-year old hands and 20 years have not been kind to it. Between a new/repro body and a V-wing, it's all that remains to complete this car in the state that I raced in the summer of 1988 (also posted below).

Here's the "new" car:

Original, first run Team Losi JRX2
Novak T1 speed control
Race Prep "orange" stock motor
Novak NER-2x 27mhz receiver
Futaba S132 steering servo
Kimbrough servo saver
Thorp turnbuckle steering rod
Losi mini front bumper
Team Brood 1400mah SCR 7-cell "Team" pack
Trinity silver battery braid

Built and ready to run, as complete as it would have been taken to the track in 1987—but built with a lot more skill than my 17-year old hands would have ever done.

As it came from the original owner... for being a car that was essentially new, it had a lot of issues that needed attention. The diff was essentially glued together, the screws were almost all stripped out and non-original, the right rear drive axle was missing a pin drive, all of the shock collars were either broken or missing and the shocks were all completely built incorrectly—among a host of other problems. It's not surprising why the car sat in a box for 20 years.

And photos of my original race rig, in a couple of different states, too... (circa 1988)

Doug you need a NES1A servo for that car, not as durable as the Futaba, but goes with the Novak theme. Very nice ride.

The rear wing wire got hung up and Cliff won the nationals for Associated (Ranch Pit Stop track).
Still have by CF chassis.
Bolink did alot better in oval - after all they came out with the LTO chassis first. And the 1/10th on-road car first.
Was it Rick Hohwart or Rick Jordan? I don't remember Hohwart running for Bolink, but its possible.

The year was 1991, I was there myself and it was Rick Hohwart. I have magazine coverage of that race as well which I just read the other day. He ran a Delta in 12th scale, and like what Bulldog posted earlier he ran a Bolink in 1/10th. He was always dialed in at the "ranch".

Bullfrog if you see this could you please post a picture of the car you have.

Would look good, but no one was using Novak servos by the time that car came out. Those servos were hot 3-5-years previous to Team Losi.

Doug,

Did you get my email about the 10th scale Delta and the DVD? I sent it about 2 weeks or so ago.

If that's true i'd like to have a Javelin... i always thought they were cool looking when i was a kid...

BTW, what was the name of Kyosho's FWD off-road buggy? I've been racking my brain for weeks now trying to remember that...

Yeah, I just found a brand new in the box David Jun edition TA03F from this old plastic model shop in Japan, but the guy wanted box price for it, which was like $400.

Isn't that kinda steep for a 10 year old car?

Actually, that JRX2 (nice example, BTW,owned and race one myself) came out in December 1988, so you would have raced it in 1989. Loved the traling arm suspension (although I think Losi called it something else) and those AYK motors were the hot poop.

NES servos were still super popular when that kit hit, but most guys in this area were using Futaba 132H and 131 servos for their offroad buggies- quicker, better centering and a little less fragile. Not sure that T1 was actually current when the JR came out- that might actually be a 1990 ESC. Very nice, tho.

Thanks, but the car is 100% period-correct with only very minor electrical details.

By that time, I don't recall anyone racing with Novak receivers anywhere except maybe the 1/12th scale carpet world. Everyone off road used Futabas and Airtronics, and little else for servos—at least in this area of the country.

The Novak T1 had been around since 1986, too, because I had been using one in a sprint car for a couple of years up to that point.

Losi called the suspension on the JRX2 "5-link" and it was followed quickly by the more aggressive H-arm conversion. I do have photos with develop stamps from late 1988 of my original car, so it definitely was out in the last half of '88, and was followed by the JRX-T in 1989.

My memory isn't what it used to be, but some things did stick with me.
