LRP Speedo Wiring

Greetings Gang,
I've got a Quantum Sport running my micro and I'm thinking the big 12 Ga. wiring that came on the speedo is a bit much. Can I just replace the stock 12 Ga. with some 18 Ga.?
As always, Thanks for the input!!

DON'T go down to 18 guage wire. 18 ge isn't meant for the amperage that even a stock motor pulls.

The two guages used or RC are 12 and 14.

Why don't you want to use 12?

For a micro, maybe a 16 will work.

I'm not sure how the gauge thing works because over here in the land of METRIC wire is sold in mm^2,

but if you went down from 12 to 18 gauge which i believe is half the diameter the resitance goes up by 4. so with 18 gauge wire it will get noticably hotter than 12 and as the temperature increases so does the resistance so you lose two fold.

so to cut a long story short, and to stop me in full flow, stick with 12AWG or 14AWG minimum

OK - read the question... he is using the speedo in a micro... we are not talking about the amp draw of a TC here. Will the 18g wire handle it? sure. But the 16 Ga will be a better bet.

You're exactly right.

Okay, the principle holds, though. Keep as large a guage wire as you can. But 16 or 18 should be fine I guess.

Sorry about the mixup!
