No at this time you can not run a sensored motor on the Mamba Max. This is a software upgrade being worked on and should be available shortly.
this is mainley because off the weak magnets novak and others use right ???
in theorie the novak 3.5 should run fine because it has a sintered rotor ....

I phoned in today and spoke with Joe. He was primarily thinking interference with the receiver is causing the hesitations. He did mention connectors, though, and that got me realizing that I had done a quick and dirty job when I shortened the ESC's motor wires and reinstalled the 4mm female bullets. I re-did them tonight, well this time, and I'll try it again this weekend.

It has nothing to do with the magnets. It has to due with the design of the Novak motor. At this time the Mamba just does not work with the Novak motors. This should be an available software upgrade in the near future.

I had the exact same thing happen to me tonight. I will try to shorten the ESC wires to see if this helps.

Has this happened to anyone? I'm close to calling Castle and then sending it back for warranty. It is not race-able like this.

Wires are factory length, connectors haven't been touched (factory installed).

Sorry, This is the quote that I meant to grab!

joe,

I have an HPI 10g wide pan car. With Novak 4.5 motor, this thing really rocks. Super fast at the 100m straight line.

Unfortunately, it went thermal shutdown everytime the track temperature was high. I am desperately looking for a replacement.

What do you think of having 7700 powering my wide pan car?

I need some more time to set the Max up properly. So far it doesn't look like you need to worry about thermal shut downs. The software for the Max is awesome. Very quick and easy to use.

Basically, unless you're geared completely wrong you shouldn't have any thermal shutdowns.

Azmio...that thing is gonna be nuts. If you use 4 NiMH cells, disable the BEC and use a receiver plug jumper from the ESC side of the battery connection directly into the receiver. This will keep you from losing signal at the end of the battery pack. 5 cells and up, no worries about disabling the BEC. 2s lipo would be INSANE!

joe ford,

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Unfortunately, here in malaysia, track temperature goes up as high as 54 degree C or 100 over farenheit. Regardless of how we gear our TC cars (10.5 and above for 4.5), thing will still go thermal shutdown. Things will be better in the evening and GTB with 4.5 will perform flawlessly.

Furthermore, with the high thermal load, 3.5 and 4.5 BL have very short life. So I guess the problem that we have are combination of high ambient temperature, high surface temperature, high voltage LIPO battery and high speed track with lots of heavy braking, hairpins and 100m straight line.

I am now thinking about buying 7700 mamba max. Hope that the bearing and the rotor are up to the challenge.
