Sphere Competition Problem

Sphere Competition Problem
3 different LRP Spere Competitions ESCs (2 in one car and one in a different) had problems at our track today. They were all shutting off a few seconds with a solid yellow light. All of them were brand new. Any ideas what the solid yellow light means and why this would happen? The hobby shop owner is going to call LRP to ask but thought I would try here too.
Both cars also had Spektrum Micro Receivers and Novak 4300 motors.

I have it set to value 1 which is auto. I tried both my nimh and lipo and it did it on both. That was my initial thought. Also when I hook a brushed motor up to it - it lets me go for a few seconds and then blinks yellow/red not sure if that is the same problem or something different.

Im glad you guys have ones that are working but it doesnt really help us solve our problems..
I had one go up in smoke as well and someone else at the track had one go up in smoke yesterday. So of the 6 that I am aware of 5 have had problems. I wonder if our area just got a bad batch.

I'd look at gearing, I know the guys who run GTB's etc have manuals that say run it 2-3 pinions below a stock motor (which for me would be 20-21T) but the Sphere says go for a ratio of 10.0 (so that means a 16-17 T pinion) maybe the two have different characteristics?

The gearing was at a 1.1 rollout. I was running 1.2 with GTB. I doubt it was thermal b/c the motors had not been ran. They sat for a long time and then would work for a few seconds and then the yellow light. In fact one of them had never been ran. If you turned the power off and on then ran it again it would go for a few seconds and do the same thing. It was about 80 degrees out so not terribly hot. Im guessing the solid yellow light is a very specific error code, unfortunately it appears LRP doesnt publish those.
The fact that 3 brand new ESCs in 2 different cars and 2 different people did this leads me to believe there is something wrong with our batch of ESC.

Mine was doing that until I moved my spektrum a little further away from it. No problems since.

make sure the speed control is in race mode(batt mode 2)if not the speed control shuts down to protect batts(in automatic mode 1)

Mine is positioned like that in my offroad car (ZX-5) and I have not had any problems. My touring car was a different story. I had to stand receiver on edge to avoid failsafe constantly. Don't know why. Its really easy to reposition and try again, so I can't imagine why someone wouldn't want to give it a try.
