Default KO Helios/MARS-R Module compatibility???

Guys,

Need a quick fix here, since racing on Saturday. I believe my Helios module crapped out, there is hardly any range at all between the radio and receiver, 10 feet away and starts glitching on both my 302 receivers.

Does anyone know if a MARS-R module will work with the Helios transmitter?

TIA,
Dom

Thanks danjoy, that helps a lot!

I wonder if I turn the HSR to normal position, if I can run the 302 receiver or 301 receiver? I remember when I had a Mars-R as backup radio, I was able to use it with the 302 receiver w/o any problem.

I doubt that it is the module. To me it sounds like the module pins maybe damaged in your radio. You should send it in for repairs.

Robert, checked the module pins on the circuit board, everything looked fine under a magnifying class.

I did open the module up, one of the silver square device with the what appears to be a flat head screw inside, appears to have burnt, it's brown inside. And it does smell a little.

Also when I plug the module in and turn on the radio, the module gets warm quickly, I assume that isn't normal?

Either way, I'll be borrwing a 103 module tonight to give it a shot.

Dom-
You are correct, that isn't normal. If your radio is under 90 days it can be warrentied. If not still send it back, we can do something for you.

Thanks Robert, unfortunately I've had my Helios for 3 years now, I'll have to see when I can send that in... it's busy summer racing time.

Can't you just run around the track chasing your car, 9.9 feet away from it?

J, you've met me, I'm not what you would call "athletic"!

Plus, it's a gas car, I can't run around with it for 30 mins!

I say you try it, if it works you can probably make a workout DVD "Dom's R/C car workout video"

I know the mars R module works in a mars because thats what I run now. When I asked the response was "The modules are the same except for the color of the of the case."

Does reciever really matter when using a mars module in the helios?

JoelV-
Receivers are not an issue since you can slow the response down to the receiver that you are using. The problem is the range. The output of the Mars modules are less then the Helios.

Are you saying that the helios has more range, or that using the mars module will decrease the range? Would it have similar range to my mars or slightly less?

Well Robert, you are right, it's something not right with the transmitter.

With the 103 module, the servos are still doing the same kind so shivering/glitching.

I'm borrowing a friend's JR R1 for the time being... how lond do you think the turnaround time is?

JoelV- The modules are built to the transmitter. So using the Mars module in the Helios will give you less range.

Dom- If I do not receive your radio by Wed., I will not be able to get to it until I return from the world championships in Italy (July 11th).
