Default How to upgrade/restore a vintage Frog?

Hi,

I'm pretty new to the whole R/C thing. I could never afford it as a kid, so of course I bought a vintage Tamiya kit that I'd wanted when I was younger. :-)

The Frog is seriously old-school, having used a separate alkaline pack to power the receiver. The alkaline pack pretty much disintegrated, leaving the car unusable.

I would like to put in an ESC (I like the features of the TEU-101BK, which I bought for my Porsche 959). What is the easiest path to do this?

It seems that all of the "BEC" modules I've found on eBay don't actually reduce the voltage fed to the receiver. Is it easier for me to just replace the receiver? It's an old Sanwa, circa 1986. Are new receivers compatible with old servos?

Thanks for any help, I'm still trying to figure out what resources are out there. :-)

Tamiya has re-released the Tamiya Frog. Buy another kit. That would be the easiest way to get parts.
