Howdy all,

What are the best tamiya sedan tires for use at the Tamiya HQ track? Any help would be great!

Sorexs' matched up with what ever the temperature happens to be and med compounds are good. If you plan on running the TCS race you are pretty much stuck with the Tamiya slicks which aren't very good tires.

Even though I'm from the other side of the world and have only seen pics of the Tamiya Track in Cali, I would guess B2 tires would be the go.
I have used these on my 414M as a test on a asphalt track and seemed to do well. The temp that day was around 28c.

for a Tamiya tire the B2's are best most of the time, HPI 33R works well most of the time too

The ideal Tamiya Tire to use at the Tamiya Track for TCS during Spring to Fall would be the Type B. The tire has excellent grip but does not last very long. Also, they no longer sell them so I guess the next best thing would be the B2 which all I know is that it is sensitive to which inserts you use(don't know which is ideal yet

Also, for messing around, a lot of us have been playing with TakeOff 27 and 32 because of the whole preglued thing (read lazy). Unfortunately, the wheels can wobble straight out of the packaging and they also need an extra bead of glue to keep everything together (kinda defeats the whole laziness point) My tire of choice for playing would be any one of the Sorex compounds. Good life and good grip.

I agree with MikeR. Tamiya B2's suck. At TCS North American nats, my fast lap with B2's was 15.3. At the Reedy race (virtually same layout) with Take-Off CS27 my fast lap was 14.4. I never timed the Sorexes, but they are even more hooked up than the Take-Off's and they last longer. Get some Sorex!

Ahhh...yes, the fond memory of B2 tires...those are incredibly difficult tires to deal with. Unfortunately l think is all we have to deal with for the 2003 season. I think I have some old B left over though

Yeah the B2's are a pain in the butt....
Really my choice is Sorex if you can use them, Never had a problem.

Looks like the tire question has been answered since only Tamiya tires are allowed and only the B2 meets the rules and is available. Noticed in the rules that any insert can be used. I've been using HPI greens & blues, anyone else?

dalem - don't forget the type A, tires. They are the kit tires in the TA04-R kit. I used the kit tires to win GT1 class back in may 2001. It was really cold last may (maybe 60 deg F) and the Type A's actually hooked up.

rtypec - no fair, those aren't Tamiya tires.

Steve - well, the only good thing about the B2's is that they last forever. They actually get faster after 3+ runs.

Ride makes the tires for Tamiya, so all they would have to do is offer more compounds.

I would like to say thanks to everyone who responsed. I have ended up getting sorexs and ran them at the track this weekend, all went well. I will look for tamiya tires as the 1st TCS gets nearer. Until then thank to all for the help.
