Novak Speed Control Motor Limit????
 

Hi All,
I have a question regarding an older model Novak speed control and its recommended minimum motor limit.

It is a model 410-HPc Hyper Fet. It is a fantastic speed control and still works perfectly well.
It was marketed as a competition level ESC and it has the following specs.

ON-Resistance 0.0015 ohms ***
PWM Frequency 2500 Hz Nominal
Rated Current 300 A ***
Braking Current 100 A ***

(***transistors rating at 25 Degrees Junction Temperature)

I am currently running a 10X4 Trinity Motor with no dramas. The ESC does not get excessively hot at any stage during use and I do believe that it has a thermal shut down if it did start to overheat.

My question is Does anyone know if this ESC would handle an 8X2 Mod Motor without any ill effects??

Probably not, judging by the fact that practically nobody ran 8 doubles back in the day. (Drag racing aside, I don't know much about those guys) Besides, if your just playing, why do you want to take the chance on just going down two winds? You probably won't feel a huge difference. If you still wanna really try, just keep checking the temp if you do, but I'd still recommend against it.

I used to have some old novak T-1s and T-4s (skibum has them now). You can E-mail novak just asking for the motor limit. They replied in about a day for mine.

If you want to run 8x2s, you better get a com lathe. You need to but then about every 2-3 runs for the best performance. You will feel a big difference in the car. It won't accelerate as fast but it will have alot more top end power. If you gear it right, it will go just as fast as a 10 turn, but have more get up and go. I plan to try an 8x1 soon. You need to probably get some good batteries and good low loss connectors like trinity, orion, corraly, or w.s. deans.

I have been informed by Novak that a motor of 9 Turns would be the lowest recommended for the 410-HPc.
