Default antenna trick?

i was getting my car serviced at my local hobby shop and he bit off some of the plastic on my antenna to expose some of the copper at the end of it .. why is this? i forgot to ask him. i guess it just helps the transmitter and receiver work better?

Maybe he was just hungry ; )

Seriously, I guess a little exposed copper could help but the insulation is so thin that I can't see RF having any problem getting through. Probably an old school trick.

theclockstrikes;

I believe that he was trying go make the Antenna wire slip through the tube easier.
Just don't fold a long length 2"+ back down along the tube. This will reduce your range. Just let the excess fly free or keep it in a loop close to the receiver.

It shouldn't help anything. . .Pops has it right - I bet that the end of your insulation was all crimped and woogedy (technical term there. . .) so it was jamming on its way through the toob (another technical spelling)
