Making setup tools
I want to pick up some electric racing because I can do it close at home and it is cheaper to do, so I ordered a Fenix G42 fronti.
The car is on its way but all other stuf like motor/esc, gears, oils, a tiny small servo, shims etc is on the desk ready to be used. Getting some setup sheets from Jitse it was clear I needed also some setup tools, I have a set for droop measurement but nothing for camber and toe-in. To save some money I decided to build some. For the camber I made a set of setup rims and a measure tool. I started with an hole saw creating some discs out os a sheet of 6mm smoke colored lexan. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...e74ea67438.jpg I had this material for another project I am busy with that also needed these discs so in one take out of one sheet I had 12 discs of 63.5mm diameter. On the edge I made a slot I could mount a large silicone ring on I also had some left over from another building project making the diameter 65mm exact. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...7e711442cd.jpg .(Need to smoothen the edges....) Next to it a digital meter which most touring racer do know from caster measurement. This was a 15 euro Amazon meter. It is mounted on a piece of L shaped aluminium profile. It took some time to line out the vice on my mill to be sure the milling sides will be exact on a 90 degrees angle from the base and indeed after milling both sides are exactly on 90 degrees, the cuts on the side are to deal with the sticking out wheel nuts. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...c6e454d1a2.jpg Clear to see some finishing touch is needed but that is no problem. So with the car on a flat surface just "zero" the meter on the surface and you can pretty precise measure the camber angle. The toe-in measurement will be a simple bar with a scale but I need to have the car to measure the wheelbase, based on that I can calculate the needed scale, so far based on a base of 250 up to 260mm 1 degree on the scale will be 3.8 to 4.0mm, also that will be pretty precise to work with. The total costs for this was 15 euro for only the meter, all other material is from own stock supply which is most free gotten scrap material and some bought materials left over from other builds. I also got a (sponsored) pre-paint body that needs to be cut out. In the past I made a neat wheel arc cutter for my 1/8 and have plans to make such a tool for the 1/10 touring as well.
