Default Stock endbell question ?

What happens when you flip the endbell of a locked timing stock motor like a PK2 ? Does it reverse the rotation and the timing ? Im building a clodbuster and want to use stock motors(i have a bunch sitting around ....) but one of the motors needs to be run in reverse. And with the timing being locked in one direction thats not good. So can I just cut the tab and put the endbell on the other way to get the correct timing while running it in reverse ???

And I know, its an off road question. But theres more "motor" guys that browse the on raod forum.

The answer is "it depends"...

You not only have to reverse the direction of rotation, but reverse the timing advance for that change in direction...

EPIC cans, with their flat sides do NOT allow reversing of the timing...

If the stock motor has a round can (Reedy, TOP, etc.) then you can cut the tab, rotate the endbell to reverse the rotation, and set the timing to be advanced for the new direction of rotation...

You could always just put red wire on the neg. side and black wire on the positive side. I would suggest you serrate the brushes and seat them before you install the motor. You won't get the same output (in terms of watts and RPM),but the motor will run as needed. --Al

This gave me an idea. I have some epic mod cans . I should be able to put the laydown brush hood on those endbells and just use those cans with a stock arm. I would just use the can as is, but I have a butt load of laydown brushes.....

Mod cans will work fine... ANY round can will allow you to reverse direction and advance the timing "backwards" for the reverse direction of rotation.
