Default Spools...

I just wanted to see what people thought about spools and there affect on cars (drive trains, wear on parts, breakages, etc.). I have had both a JRXS and Schuie:EC and run mod in both and both cars have held up very well.

My expereiences have been:

The JRXS tends to wear out the plastic composite outdrives and it has the LCD to be able to run 100% steering throw without 'chattering'.

The EC wears out 'blades' to protect the outdrives and cvd pins.

Both cars have broken or bent nothing due to the spool.

What have been other people's experiences with spools??? (cars like the 415msx, cyclone, T2, BD)

I used a period with spool on my pro4. Had to change bevel gears almost 2 weeks or less. It will have more wear and tear on the transmission of course more breakage. Since the spool doesn't bulge, something else must break right? But eventually I still like my pro4 best when it is running on spool.

with the car setup for it, the spool is a pretty good option. been running one for a few months in preparation for RROC. with a little grease on the outdrives i have zero pin wear... as for ring gears on my TC4, only on hard impact does it ruin a gear... only broke one in the last 2 months...

you might want to check your mesh I have the pro 4 with the spool running mod and the bevel gears still look brand new, I have worn out the out drives a little bit but is still in almost new condition.

I run a spool in my Xray '04 and as long as you throtle smooth the wear seems to be less of an issue

My centre pulley is locked (no one-way). I would imagine that running a centre one-way would defeat the purpose of running a spool diff.

I run the delrin outdrive spool on my MSX. As it's light (about 7g) it really helps the car retain great turn-in. Regards durability, it can be a little fragile indoors, but then I usually run a 1-way or diff. I think in my whole time since running one (about a year) I've only broken two outdrives (one off the yump at bedworth, and the other against a roll of carpet)... so not too bad. No chatering either.
