If you want to burn cash on lathe you can get this for about $400 . : http://www.hudy.net/eshop/products/p...b&kategoria=61

I bought mine used for $275 (diamond bit included) and it is flawless

The best thing is that it works with 12V means works with any power supply.

The cobra and Twister lathes are great simple lathes. If the support blocks have not been knocked out of alignment they are good lathes.

The Fantom is a single piece support. It will cut straight for YEARS! Yes the lathe is $400 but add up what you get. You get a sealed carrying case, 4 cell battery, DIAMOND cutting bit, slave motor and cutting fluid. Best of all it is setup and ready for you to cut out of the box. All you need to do is solder up the supplied switch between the slave motor and the battery. I installed a deans connector between the battery and the swtich for easy storage and charging of the 4 cell battery.) Once you add these accessories to any other quality lathe you can run up to close to $400 on any one of those lates. Also the case Fantom gives you is really nice to protect your investment. If you are just looking at lathes I do think the single piece machining for the arm support will ensure the lathe stays true. I have seen a lot of 3 piece (base and two vertical arm supports) get knocked out of plane which will result in a cone shaped comm. The Fantom has been worth every penny.

Anyone know what the minimum comm diameter is for a Reedy Spec 19 Quad mag motor? I have an old one that I got with a used car and I'm using it for my practice /basher motor. The comm was real hour glass shaped and it took cutting it down to 0.315 to remove all low spots. Wondering if it has any life left in it?
Reedy Quad Mag Min. .300.

Stormer hobbies has them in stock most of the time. www.stormerhobbies.com. Ultimate Hobbies tries to keep them in stock as well but you will need to call the store. They will ship for free also. www.ultimatehobbies.com

Best lathe on the market for the money and the quality of the cutt is the Orion Quick Set lathe. It can be found for 125.00 brand new.

Also just because the Fantoms are one piece does not mean they cut straight....Ive ran across 3 that do NOT cut straight.

Also www.Carterdiamond.com Best diamond bits you will ever use!!

If you really want to spend some money they also sell natural diamond bits for around 240.00 or so...but they are overkill. The 74.50 synthetic diamond will last for years. Mine has

TAMIYAMANUK,
since you are in the UK, what brands are available there ??
eagle, hudy, and much more brands may be easier for you to purchase.
you do want to get solid v-blocks on the lathe.
can you post a link of which brands are available to you in the UK ??
