Tamiya TB02 vs TA05 for TCS and club racing.
 

Not trying to start a shaft/belt war here. Just looking for opinions on both. Would be used for inexpensive club racing and TCS racing in GT3 or GT2. Would always be raced on asphalt, never carpet tracks. I know the price between a regular TB02 and TA05 is pretty close so just looking for opinions.

one piece drive shaft - TB02 will cost you more and more diff gear failure in future..

I would choose TA05. The TA05 could be even better than a 415 if they would make a TRF version of it. One reason is that the TA05's balance is better than the 415. The motor is at the center and the 415's is slighty rear. This can make the TA05 advantageous.

TA05 period

I would choose the TA05 on everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. :nod:

Agreed, I have a TB02(though I haven't run it yet, won it in a TCS race last year, :p ), but I'd still prefer to buy a TA05 over it anytime. I've seen them in action, & they look VERy good, run almost as well as the much more expensive Tamiyas, like the TRF 415's for example(handling wise), & the big closer IMO is that you can use ANY spur/pinion combo you want, since that car has a more standardized spur mount(the TB02 has a keyed mount that only allows you to use Tamiya spurs, & its motor plate only allows for a few pinion choices, you can still get some range of ratios with that, but nothing NEAR what you can do with the TA05's setup). I think it'll be the car to beat this year.... :cool:

I bought a tb02 last week (april 15) and a ta05 yesterday (april 21).
-ta05 has less tire slack/play
-ta05 doesn't have a bevel gear that would easily wear out
-tb02 had noticeable front torque lift in my hand while the ta05 has a slight lift using stock silver cans.
-stock differentials on ta05 were more smoother rotating than the stock differentials on the tb02
-ta05 has no risk of gears being sheared off, there are no gear-to-gear contact only contact with the belt and gear. you don't have to carry spare bevel gears with you. (like what I read concerning bevel gears and tamiya shaft cars on this forum.


I gave my tb02 to my brother, if I sold it to him i would have felt bad.

BUY THE TA05

I bought the TB02 to go TCS racing with and have for two years. It's been a good reliable car. Not super fast but fast and handles well. If I had a choice now I would go with the TA05, and this is what Tamiya will focus on in the future, I expect to see alot this month at our race in Memphis,TN.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm actually in same position as well. I'm considering the TB02 and TA05 chassis for 540 racing (and when I get better for a bit of stock). At the moment, I can get the TB02 on special at A$170 vs A$299 for TA05.

The TA05 sounds like the better handler with more future potential, whilst the TB02 cheaper, less maintenance option. However as I'm a little low on funds at the moment, I'm hoping to be able to move my electrics across from my RTR TT01 at the start to help keep the costs down a bit.

I've got the integrated CPR01 integrated receiver/ESC which looks like it will fit on the TB02 without any major issues. However does anyone know if it will fit on the TA05?

there's no way CPR01 will fit on TA05.... unless you raise it over the motor.... not good at all. Consider to buy at least a cheap tamiya speedo, that is ready to fit on the 05.... I got the cpr it from my old tt01, but it gives me so much glitches that I just change it for an LRP speedo and Futaba radio.... you'll see that you'll run much more consistently with a better radio equipment.

i found myself creating a new thread on exactly this, but im glad i found this. it seems to me that the TA05 is one step above the TB02, although i still consider both, i think im going for the TA05,

the kit itself could be better, but for 150 bucks i think its very decent...
i started building it today and i found that some of the screws that come with the kit are not that strong... so i warn fellow TA05 builders. other than that, i cant wait to get my parts in for a race ready F430.

When I got my TA05 f430 Kit, I spent two evenings total of 7-8 hours to finish it (radio and all - RTR) and you right you need to be carful with the bolt heads so notto strip them alot. But I would take th TA05 any day or night over TB02, and
