Tamiya MB-01

New M chassis coming from Tamiya, called the MB-01. Will be released with the Fiat 500 Abarth 1000 TCR body. 58721 1/10 Fiat Abarth 1000 TCR Berlina Corse (MB-01 Chassis). Speculation are that it will be a 1/12 Mini pan car chassis similar to offerings from Yokomo Rookie Platform

Very curious myself.

My guess so far is that it will be the new basis for M-chassis, with M-07 already being from 2014 and M-08 from 2019.
It is time for a new FWD mini chassis.. With it being on the FIAT Abarth, the first hint is that it will allow a SWB not only MWB or LWB.

I heard a speculation that it might be made a platform that easily allows it to be build in different configurations like. FF, MF, MR or RR.
That would be really interesting

M07 was not 2014. It was around 2017. Tamiyabase has wrong info.
M03 was around 1998. M05 was around 2009. 11 year gap.
M07 was 2017, 8 year gap.

We're at about 6 years now, so on Tamiya's typical timelines it's a bit early for one.

With the change in naming convention I expect a car a step away from the normal Minis. Maybe 4WD or some true Tamiya quirkiness is coming? I'm curious at least.

I'd love for Tamiya to make a 1/12 scale pan car, but the Fiat body seems too tall to fit the class.
Purely speculating, but I'm going to guess that it's a mini race-oriented shaft-driven 4WD chassis.
For 1/10 they have the TA-## and TB-## series for belt & shaft. So perhaps it's time for mini to have the same?

One of the parts was for a "lower deck", which would set it apart from the plastic monocoques and tubs.
The mention of a transmission, gear box, and 06 module pinion infers some kind of gear-on-gear reduction, typical of shafties.

51719 MB-01 A-Parts (Uprights)
51720 MB-01 B-Parts (Dampers)
51721 MB-01 C-Parts (Transmission)
51722 MB-01 D-Parts (Gear Box)
51723 MB-01 G-Parts (Gears)
51724 MB-01 M-Parts (Suspension Arms)
51725 MB-01 LD-Parts (Lower Deck)
51726 06 Module Pinion Gear (29T)

That parts list makes it sound like this might be a high performance chasiss. Like the M07 and M08. I'm excited.

Interesting part list. I am especially curious about the Dampers/B-Parts, does this mean the car doesn't utilise any of the standard dampers that are present on literally any other on-road car by Tamiya? Or are the B-Parts just the bridges/mounts?
Also the Lower Deck part makes me think that the chassis concept could be closer to the TA-08.

Exactly what drew my attention - non-standart dampers and no parts carried over from current line could mean 1/12 chassis. Tamiya already tried something similar with TA05 M-four.
Or, maybe it'll have some weird supension, like macpherson type with tube dampers.

Could it be something like this from MST: https://www.rc-mst.com/product_car_i...9&sn=3574&od=1

It looks like we will be getting a replacement for the M07 and TT02 with the MB-01 and BB-01. I look forward to see which direction Tamiya has gone with these.

This is my guess as well. Don’t think it will replace the M chassis.

BB01 is speculated to be a buggy platform

Core Creations 01-11-2023 09:01 AM

I guess we'll see in a few weeks and the Nuremburg Toy Fair. I know the TT02 has had a couple buggy versions. It will be interesting as we get more info. I think the TT02 is due for a replacement. Not that it would be better than the current platform, ala TA08 vs TA07. Excited to see!
