Boiling front bumper?

My first front bumper on my Sport2 hold for about 1½ year, before it finally broke. I got a new one, and I boiled it. But the new one broke the first night. Is it better to not boil it or was I just very un-lucky?

I've never heard of boiling it... Is it supposed to make it stronger, or what? Best way to not break it, is to stop hitting stuff! Like I should talk...

Jeff - Boiling makes the plastic slightly more flexible, so when it gets hit, it doesnt break.

Cole - Stop hitting things ;) Do you use the foam bumper? make sure that it hits the foam before it hits the accual plastic!

I only boil bumpers when they start to crack around the holes. If you can't get a new one, boiling it will make the holes the original size and make the cracks less pronounsed.

since we're talking about bumpers, i just wanted to know how to bend my bumper back to its original pre-pipe hitting days. as of now, the bumper on my pro 2 is pushing up (?), it's like its getting tweaked or sumthin. how do i bend it back down? i hope you guys get the picture....:( :( :( :( :(

I just bent my Pro2's bumper by hand.... it was soft enough that i could do that with no problems.

Cole Trickle - Here's a very good solution: Use the RS4 Mini bumper, which is part #A350. It is much thicker, and shorter, so it allows the foam bumper to absorb the impacts instead of the plastic bumper.

To get it back to it's oringinal shape, put it in a bowl with a flat bottom, and pin it down with something. Pour boiling water over it, and when the water becomes cold enough, take it back out and it should be back to its original shape.

Thanks for your advices. Aurra, thanks for your patience, you've answered the Q in another forum too!

Yes, the plan was to make it stronger. But I think the water made it slightly softer, so the mounting holes broke easier. Well, I've already bought a new wide bumper. But if the new one break too, I'll remember the small bumper.
