I'm already on F blocks which is 2 notches wider than kit setup on the suspension arms. It did help, but didn't get rid of it completely.

Reducing front droop, camber, and shims under the upper inner front arms seems to have cured it for now.

Do they make any aftermarket aluminum chassis for this car?

Haven't seen one which is a shame, but to be honest with the lack of a proper top deck i think an ally chassis would bent quite easily around the flex point where the spur gear is.

I was hoping I was just not finding it. It’s unfortunate how little support there is for this car. I personally really enjoyed racing it on asphalt this past summer.

Yeh it's a shame, I've enjoyed running mine indoors since i got it last November, but I've been on my own with setup really. In the last month I've fully cured the grip roll now and got rid of alot of the oversteer and regularly finish mid of the A finals, but guys who I was racing closely with are now half a lap up on me, most of them now running mugen mtc2r now which appears to be out of the box much faster than the evo.

I'm hoping tamiya will release a 421 soon so I can stick with the brand an be more competitive again, 420x is out of stock now in most places so i think something is coming very soon.

I have also enjoyed this car a lot – but decided to go back to my TRF420 (non-X) for racing. The EVO-8 is a good car, but ultimatively too heavy for the classes I am running in and difficult to set up. The TRF420 is simply faster for the conditions I am facing
Tamiya will certainly release a new TRF chassis soon, the Tamiya drivers are experimenting with short dampeners and a more mid-mounted motor, and in the TRF420 thread I laid out a timeline of recent releases with speculation on when the next one might show up.

Interesting, so you recon December this year then, which could explain why 420x is out of stock now.

Yeh it's a heavy bit of kit, and the flex doesn't help. I run a shorty which gets me about 20g above brca weight. But I'm trying to source a full size lipo which doesn't make it too overweight, I think the shorty is limiting my punch.

I've found an ezpower 6100 which is only 235g, so only 15g heavier than my shorty

Did some back to back testing last night with and without the top deck brace. Times were almost 2 10ths a lap faster without the brace.

I'm struggling now though, guys are now a lap up on me and I can't seem to keep up anymore. I'm going to try a new shell and new battery, if that fails its new car time I think.

Is there any way you can set the rear to have active toe gain? I notice you can add shims to give toe reduction in corners, but you can't raise the link enough to give any tow gain, only reduction which seems pretty pointless as really you want to loose toe on the straights and gain it in the corner

I don't have a TB Evo 8 but can't you lower the inside camber link ball (towards the chassis) that goes on the bulkhead?

Or another option (found on my TA08), is buy the carbon steering piece from the TRF420 which is thinner, lets you run the hub ball higher so you can achieve more toe gain.

Cheers dan.

Yeh I've just tried the carbin Arms with the ball on the other wau around but it was giving me almost 1.5 degrees of gain which is probably a bit too much to start with lol.

I'll have a play and see if i can shim under the bulkhead mount, but its a pain taking all the rear end apart just to get a couple of shims in.

Could do with the ball stood not been quite as tall

Anybody run an ultra low centre of gravity lipo? 19mm height?

I've just measured my posts, and it fits snug with a 3mm shim with my 25mm lipo, so im thinking with a 19mm it wont go low enough to fit a 19mm.

Well if anybody is still running this car, I changed to a 19mm full size 6100 lipo weighing in a 240g, and changed to a bitty designs eptron shell. And wow, it was like a new car. Everything about it was just so much better.

Better steering, better rotation, absolutely no signs of grip roll amd got me back 4th in the A final. It's made me want to continue with this car, there's definitely more still to come from this car

On the 420x a lot of guys put a 2mm shim under the bulkhead with a 5x8mm ball stud which gives a lot more range, I got that tip from Dai Sakaguchi.

I've just picked up a 'used' Evo 8 and I'm in the process of rebuilding (cleaning off the gratuitous amount of threadlock gel and ceramic grease plastered everywhere but where it should be!) so your setup tips on here will be very useful. Any chance you could ping me a setup sheet? I'll be running mine at Stoke and Crewe mostly.

We also have a TRF/Tamiya UK Racers Facebook chat group with the like of Andy Travis & Craig Howard (The RC Racer) dm me your Facebook profile and I'll add you
