GEAR RATIO'S 540 GETTING THE MOST

As a new RC junky i have started in the 540 class , i currently have a venom pro chassis with a sports tuned 540. What would be the fastest gear ratio for a tight track??? In this class with such close racing any edge obtained would be an advantage

ask some of the locals what the run and see how it goes. listen to what the motor is doing is it peaking early down the straight or is it not peaking down the straight at all. U wnat it peaking about 3/4 down the straight and be bogging out of the turns

Gear the motor as high as you can until it smokes, then take 1 tooth off the pinion. This is then the correct ratio you should have run before you cooked the motor. If you are running 540 class you cannot legally run the sport tuned motor. Johnson 540 is the only legal motor

hmmm not really true. depends on track. some tracks i do 38mm some up to 44mm rollout. i go faster on 38mm than on 44mm on a tight track that requires lots of punch. cheers
