Sparks from motor

Hiya,

I was just setting up my car (T1FK05, had to redo a bunch of stuff due to my new 3PK). I started the car, and after I press throttle to max, then break to max, sparks fly from the motor (ok, they don't fly, but there's a big fat spark from the motor). My ESC is a Corally MMS3 (same as KoPropo VFS-1). I have the shottky on the motor, as well as the capacitor on the ESC.

Are the sparks anything to worry about?

What should I do about them?

TIA

That's normal, nothing to worry. Check your brushes to make sure they are in good condition.

The sparks you see are the product of Back EMF(Electromotive Force). When the armature spins, the motor generates voltage (like a miniature generator) that fights the voltage applied to it (i.e from the battery). The sparks occur when this voltage is transfered from one comm plate to the next. When you hit the brakes hard, this effect is augmented thus you see bigger sparks. These large sparks can actually damage sensitive electronics, that's why speed controls have protection measures built in, and thus why a lot of people use schotky diodes to help with this.

What can you do about them? Nothing, it's the nature of the beast.
It's normal, don't worry about it.

That's what happens when you jam the break...

don't use brakes
