Default RC Video Capturing Hardware/Software

Ive got one of those wireless spycams, and I wanna record a few laps just for kicks and maybe even learn from. I have a laptop and was looking for a USB capture device. Does anyone have any recommendations? I looked into the one by Dazzle, didnt get good reviews.

I have the Dazzle 150. I had to download some patches, but it works fine. Don't expect high res though... the camera will not give a picture like a 3ccd camera does.

I use Pinnacle Studio 9 to edit.
... more fun than we should be allowed.....

My old man has one called AverTV by Avermedia. Works pretty good. I haven't seen a capture card that didn't do what it is suppose to. I had a dazzle firewire card for my PC once upon a time. It captures through fire wire from my DVcam. It works, but the software really sucked.

The limitations is more on your computers processing capabilities, and especially with large video files. But you are only capturing off a spy cam which is pretty low video quality so you don't have much to worry about. Unless you got a good quality feed, you don't need to capture at high resolutions, high frame rate or high quality. Most of the stuff I end up capturing gets reformatted into a lower grade so the sizes are more managable but still gets the point across.

You can use any Portable Video Recorder(PVR) device too. I used a Mustek PVR-A1, usually found on Ebay for less than $100, to record from my little spy camera. There's also a PVR called the Neuros Recorder 2, it's a bit more expensive but the quality of the picture is a lot better, it records at 640x480 instead of 320x200.

The Mustek PVR-A1 uses an SD card for storage. It hooks up to a PC via USB and saves the movies in ASF format...obviously these can be edited using any simple software designed for the purpose. No need for a capture card when using this setup.

Here's what I used my spy-camera/mustek combo for (in addition to putting it in r/c cars!):

It ain't the best quality, you get what you pay for. But it's still pretty fun to watch!
