What does this mean? HELP!!
 

I recently bought an Integy Manual Tire Truer, this one to be exact:

I went to try it out with my power supply and it spun for about half a second and it stopped and my power supply shut down. The power supply Iam using is a converted pc power supply which puts out 14 amps. I went to go check the power supply and it was fine, i turned it off and turned it back on and it was fine. It powers my charger and some fans just fine but when it comes to the truer it doesnt work. Is it that the truer is drawing too many amps?

Well the recommended power supply for that truer (from towers recommendation) has 11.5 amps. So a 14 amp supply should run it. But I have seen converted computer power supplies do strange things before. A freinds pc supply would not run his Triton charger if you turned on the charger with the supply running... it shut it down... but if you hooked up the charger and turned it on and then turned on the supply it worked fine :weird:
Why don't you ask some one with a non converted power supply if you could hook up your truer to see if it works.

It's most likely the Power Supply. The motor will draw lot of Amps when its starting up. On some small motors there can be up to 50 Amp peak draw. Some PC PS shut down when they detect that amount of Amp draw.

PC power supplies have a safety circuit built into them called a crowbar. If there's excess current draw the power supply effectively turns itself off. To reset it you have to turn it off and on. A tire truer takes a tremdous amount of current to start up, and uses alot when cutting the tire. A PC power supply isn't designed for that kind of load.

Try using a car battery. That's the best thing to use for a truer.

Ya iam thinking its the power supply too. Iam gonna have to ask around. I was on the integy website and they said that the higher model of this Truecut Truer needs a 7 amp power supply. So lets say its the same for this one, But it shoudl still be able to run as I run my charger at 6 amps + about 5 amps at .2 amps, thats 7 amps. Now I talked to someone at my local forum who has the same truer and he says it works with his 9 amp noname power supply.

hook up the truer to your car battery and see what it does....

Ok i will try a car battery, also i just tired using my power supply to charge at 10 amps, no problem and the fans. So iam guessing its that current surge.
