Cracked lipo battery case: use the battery or toss it?

I have a lipo battery with its plastic case slightly cracked. The battery is not puffed and IR readings look normal. Tape the battery and keep using it or toss it?

It's unfortunate when it happens, but at that point, it's best to recycle it. I had once had a new battery that I accidentally dropped like 3 ft and the case cracked...I immediately discharged it and sure enough, it started to puff up on the way to home depot to recycle it. I would say to keep it in a fire proof bag and don't keep it somewhere flamable, you wouldn't want to start another fire like how California is burning up right now.

It should take a decent hit to crack the case, but if it does, it would be best to not use it...

it would all depend on how case was cracked .how was case cracked?

Most likely I over tightened the battery or did not tighten it enough and it was moving when I was driving the car.

Tbh you could tape the battery and continue using it. I would advise to get the strongest tape you can buy and make sure the area where the casing is cracked isn't causing the battery's entire case to come apart. I would then just wrap the battery as tightly as I could and then continue to properly charge, discharge and storage the battery. I've had an 8k 100c zeee battery case crack in a crash and I've used clear gorilla tape and It's never puffed and I've had that battery for over a year. Some are lucky to not have damaged the battery when the case itself cracked to not have to worry about puffing to have to dispose of the battery entirely.

I have a 1s for 1/12th scale that has a cracked case....no issues still use it just taped it up.

Fiber tape can work if the pack never puffed...
