The motor I have is Tekin 17.5 and a LRP SPX speedo. The track has a 75 ft. straightaway and not to technical infield. Any help would be great. I am kind of new to electric TC.

Profile 8, 10* on motor, 5.8 FDR, and go from there.

i did feel i was more consistent with it. but that could be the product of Sean's set up as well as the chassis. who knows?

Left to Right balance was easier to achieve..... the battery holders are awesome since they're weighted too. . overall id recommend the chassis without hesitation.
Keven had one for his mod car @ champs. I asked him how he liked it, and he said there's not too much of a performance difference, a little easier to drive. I ran one in 13.5 as well there, I definitely had good pace, I was just struggling with not over-driving the car, and people taking you out

So do you guys think the set-up on my car is fine? As for the motor goes, I had the timing cranked all the way up to 20 degrees and profile 8 on the speedo. I started the night with a 5.1 FDR and it ran pretty hot. I ended the night with a 6.1 and it was pretty cool.

Gearing was simple a year ago, now it is a dark art. The best people can give you is starting FDR and some general advice.

4.5 FDR with 17.5 motor is normally a good starting point, but with the SPX and other 'dynamic timing' speedos, that won't work, maybe 6 is a better start point.

The hard truth is, you have to start conservative and experiment. You may need to turn the motor timing down, if I understand correctly (unlikely, so complicated) then low motor timing gives you the torque for the infield and the additional timing (turbo) the speedo adds on will give you the top end. This is how I think the team wave and Tekin speedos do it, but the SPX may be different. If you have to gear an SPX at 6, and a team wave at 3.7 then they are certainly different, and only experimentation with your car and your motor and your track will tell you what is best.

Gearing used to be so easy!

Neal

On another note, can anyone recommend me some carbide diff balls for the TC5. I just want some that will not wear for a few years.

Cheers

Top Racing USA has ceramic prebuilt thrust bearings that fit but you need Tamiya 415 diff nut and screw. They sell ceramic diff balls too.

Tamiya makes a pre built thrust bearing too. Losi makes 3/32 carbide diff balls although carbide aren't really worth the money. If you wanna spend $ on harder diff balls go with ceramic tho there's nothing wrong with standard balls as long as you break the diff in slowly so you don't flat spot the standard balls.

Guys,i have one of Pauls pre production motor centralizing mounts,no need for redrilling of the chassis, just some minor dremaling needed on the top plate.
Existing AE bulkheads are retained!

Its a really simple and effective solution to making the motor mount inline, and does improve the cars performance.

When you actually see it you will wonder why someone has not come up with this system earlier.

Watch this space as i am sure Paul (aka Pablo Diablo)with have more info to follow.
